Renaming on import

In what order are the images displayed before you rename them on import? Why do you mean that they are numbered in the correct order (in your first sentence)?

I rename on import in a similar way. The images are shown in date order in the import window. I have them renamed with tokens to have the image date* followed by a four-digit counter. They come in in the right order and are numbered as I would expect. Sometimes I have used more than one camera on a shoot, and so then I import from the second camera and although the date is right, the numbers are wrong because they follow on from the numbering from the first camera. So then I use batch renaming to re-do the numbering.

Seems to work right for me, but I am not quite sure what it is about your process that is different.

    * I actually don't use the [Image Date] token because I want dates in the format 2022-11-13 for images taken today, so I have to use [Image Year]-[Image Month]-[Image Day of Month] so as to be able to get 2022 instead of just 22. But I don't see how that would make a difference to your issue.

In C22 I could rename on import with [image date]_[3 digit counter] and the images would be renamed 001-999 in the correct order so when viewed in C1 sorted by date 001-999 would be in the right order, this worked OK in C22.
In C23 when using the same rename on import the 001-999 are not in the right order when viewing and sorted by date in C1. Basically the numbers are mixed up.

But were they in the right order before importing? (Probably, but I thought it worth checking. In my experience, the numbering when you rename works in the currently selected sort order.)

I'm was importing from a memory card straight out of camera with one days shooting on it so I guess they were in the right order.

My question really was what order they were in in the import dialog box.

    I have the same problem.
I asked in this community and found someone with the same condition.
I am using (yyyy)(MM)(dd)_jobname_3 digit counter.
When I import, the numbers are not sorted by date or by name, but by random numbers.
I am trying to batch rename the disparate items in date order, but it is very annoying.
I have submitted it to support and they have replied with details, but have not yet received a response.

In my experience, [Image Date] does use the full date data including h:mm:ss and puts them in the right order, even though the displayed date may only be yy:mm:dd without displaying the hours, minutes, and seconds.

I have a vague memory that there may have been a bug in an earlier version where the import order didn't come out right, but I can't find it with a quick look through the release notes archive.

I just tried it using [image name]_[3 digit counter} and it still put the counter numbers in random order.

    Hi SFA
    I created a new one.
It all worked as expected in V22

It's hard to find where to submit a request.
When you open the "submit a request" page it is full of How To articles, how do you actually report a bug ?

Once you have clicked on the Submit a Request link, you can scroll down too ether category concerned (for instance Crash, Hang, App not starting) There are links to some articles that may help, but then there is this.

and you can create a support ticket.

To me it look's like they need a "create a support ticket" link somewhere that's a bit easier to find.

For what it's worth, I see the exact same issue with Version 23 on a Mac. Everything is sorted correctly in the import dialog, but the counter ends up being applied randomly during the actual import process. Once done, I then have to rename the images again just to get the names correct.

    Very frustrating.

I've just received this reply from the C1 support team.

Having looked at the information provided, we've come to the conclusion that this is a bug in Capture One. A report has been made detailing the issue, and all relevant attachments or information will be used by R&D to implement a fix.

Hi. I was having the same problem tonight. I deleted the Naming Tokens and started over. Worked as before.
