Setting for allowing duplicate filenames

Filenames must be unique within a folder on disk. There should not be a problem with filenames "FileA 1.tif" and "FileB 1.tif" as they differ.

If you operate on two folders, say "Slideshow" and "Book", a filename like "FileA 1.tif" can appear in both folders. You can not have two files named "FileA 1.tif" in the same folder. "FileA 1.raw", "FileA 1.tif", "FileA 1.jpg" however; are different filenames and can coexist in the same folder.

I suspect you already knew all that. What is actually the problem you want to solve?

So is what happens now is within a catalog Im shooting tethered. Letting Capture One name the files base on camera counter. I shoot 100-200 images and then go back in and change that file name to my own name using reestablished barcode numbers and use a hand scanner to scan them in. In past catalogs it allows me to duplicate that number because we have multiple images of the same number I scan in the one number and upon export with a conversion (RAW - .tif) it places it into one folder with the duplicate numbers the same but adding 1, 2,  3 etc.. to the names. Like the below screen shot.

When creating a new catalog it no longer allows for this type of naming. However if I use an old catalog it lets me just fine. Is this a auto naming issue or a setting that I dont have set correctly?

Exactly, it makes the filenames unique. It is the application's way to avoid overwriting/replacing an existing file with new content.

I never use Capture One catalog and do not recognize what your images show here. Maybe someone else knowing the ins and outs of tethering with catalogs can chime in to help you.

Your presentation of two names "346216.CR3" is either the same image file rendered twice or it is two separate files located in different disk folders.
