Something you might want to be aware of is there's quite a few of us that have owned licenses for a while now and the company has been actively screwing us over and not offering us upgrade rates. I can buy a new license for $179 or I can upgrade for $189 this year from CaptureOne 22. If you're still in your 30 days, you might want to consider looking for software elsewhere if you plan on upgrading yearly.

@ anonymous user - if you are aggrieved about the cost of Capture One upgrades, it really doesn't help to just vent your dissatisfaction on a random thread, instead of trying to answer the poster's question. Go and troll somewhere else.

petru petru - Once you have C1 open (in the Express version) go to the Capture One menu at the top of the Mac screen, and choose Licence... Click the Blue Deactivate button. This is to deactivate the Express version. Then close Capture One and reopen it. You should then have the opportunity to enter your code for 23 Pro. (Note that there is no need to download anything else - the downloaded file is the same for all versions, and it's just the Licence Code that determines whether it opens as Express or Pro.)

Ian Wilson You're not wrong about me being a Troll. And while I normally absolutely despise trolls, I really don't like getting screwed over by a company I've been supporting for a few years now. I've seen deals for new users for $179, while my "Upgrade" price was $189 on a 50% off Black Friday sale. If me being a troll will help bring to light Capture One taking advantage of their old users to their new users, then I will do just that. Sometimes the only way to get companies to change is to hit them where it counts, the bank.

Fair enough, if that's how you feel. But it's not very fair to just throw your comments in to a thread where a user of the software is hoping for help with a problem he has encountered. And if you have been using the software for some years now, so that you are accustomed to the sometimes quirky way it works, you could probably have answered his question for him.
