SMART ADJUSTMENT AI NOT CONSISTENT

Let me start by saying that I really love Capture One 23!  The Smart adjustment feature holds great promise, but I am having issues with it and wondering if anyone else is too.  Sometimes it works amazingly well, but I find that there seems to be either a bug or flaw in the algorithm.  Here's my process for a series of portraits under similar, but not the same lighting (ie. flash doesn't fire 100% or ambient light changes because of repaidly moving clouds).  I perfect one portrait image for white balance and set it as the reference.  I then apply it to my other images.  I find that sometimes the results are exquisite, but often they are extremely inconsistent.  Even worse, if I use an image as a reference, and then apply it to itself, it radically changes the white balance on same image.  Anyone else having this issue?  Hoping I'm doing something wrong, or an update with further refinements will help.
