... or at least a Back button to get back to where we were working before.

Absolutely a Back button would be a good start. How many times have I reached for the non-existent back button…

John, that can be a useful workaround in some cases, or indeed the best solution, but if the scope of my longer term task is the whole catalog of 100’000+ photos?

Actually another possibility would be to allow bookmarks in the catalog.

Honestly, CaptureOne product managers, I believe there is considerable market value in developing the catalog and DAM features further. Going forward it looks like you’re going to need as many USPs and differentiating features as you can find….  Sure it won’t get you headlines on pixel peeping gear websites, or raves from “influencers”, but it might be a strong selling point to people who actually have money to spend.

ps - there seem to be more people lamenting Aperture these days than actually bought a licence. My guess is that this has something to do with the fact that it took a very long time for people to understand what Aperture actually offered.  Even Steve Jobs appeared to think that it was a “Photoshop killer”, which it obviously was not.  Aperture had a huge range of features and brilliant ideas outside of the Raw developer feature, which do not exist in any other product today. Capture One is the closest, and I think has the potential to expand into that current unfulfilled market.
