C1 23 Full Screen view Mac 13.1side panels options?

the side panels (with thumbnails and settings) automatically slide out of sight for me, which often is ok but I sometimes need one (or both) to stay in place, is there a way to do this? it would be nice to be able to click on the arrow to lock it in. 

I cannot (for example) arrange files into albums because when I select the thumbs, I can't drag them anywhere because the side panel with the list of albums won't slide out when I drag the images to that side. switching to a view with menu bar solves the issue.

    Have you looked in the View menu under "Customize Tools" options?

    I have, you can toggle "auto hide" on or off, which either makes the tools permanent or they slide out automatically and you get the little arrow to slide the tools back out. I guess the way to solve my issue is to use the shortcut to toggle the auto on and off. It would make more sense to me to be able to click something (the arrow?) to make the tools stay and another click to slide them out of the way again.
