Using Capture One 23 perpetual license without an Internet connection

Thanks for the tip. However, I thought Capture One called home every so often to make sure you were not running more than the number of copies allowed? If not, how else can they make that determination? If so, what would happen if they go out of business and your copy will not work because it can't call home?

Absolutely agree they are unlikely to disappear. The problem is that one cannot use the software without connecting to the internet every so often. Granted, this is not a big problem for most people most of the time. In the "old" days when software arrived on disks with a key printed on the back of the CD case, companies felt that was enough license enforcement. After years of distribution over the internet, companies realized they could have better control over licensure. Today, you are never completely untethered, even with a perpetual license.

Older versions of Capture One do not require periodic interrogation via internet of their license. I know this because I have an older version on an old Mac Pro whose OS cannot run recent versions of Capture One that continues to work fine without an internet connection, although I d not use it.

I asked support about the need for an internet connect for Capture One to continue working. The only requirement for an internet connection in the support articles is an internet connection is needed to update a subscription, but is silent on the need between updates for any license. I await their reply and will post it.

My understanding is that it is the subscription versions that require a connection at least once in 30 days - presumably to check that you are still paying!

Ian is correct. Support staff clarified this further -- perpetual licenses do not require revalidation. Below, in italics, is the response from staff:

To clarify, using the software doesn't prompt you to be constantly online. You can work offline as long as you wish with a perpetual licence. To use the software on a subscription basis, you must maintain the internet connection for Capture One to be able to validate and reconfirm your valid subscription license in terms of regular payments.

Only perpetual Capture One Pro licenses can be activated offline. If you have a subscription, trial, or Express license - then you cannot activate your license offline.

You should be able to use a perpetual license offline (without Internet access) for as long as you wish, only needing to use internet when upgrading.

So, if you get a message with a perpetual license for revalidation after you have already installed/upgraded it, staff says to notify them.

I constantly get asked to sign in if working offline (23 perpetual licence).

Basically I can be working online, but then disconnect from the internet to not hog the bandwidth as my machine is OneDrive is constantly trying to backup to the cloud.

As soon as I disconnect, capture one shuts down and when I reopen I have to sign in and verify the account again - requiring me to connect and disconnect again. It doesn't seem to happen often than one a day, though.
