Most asked for and ignored requests by professional digital technicians.
I've compiled a list of the most requested features and often ignored by development team (some going back years on the feature request forum) as well as many improvements professional digital technicians would like to see implemented. These are quality of life and performance focused features that would benefit a large portion of the user base.
-
Fix Capture Pilot.
It’s unstable and usable for more than a few hours in real world usage. It’s not a matter of hardware. It’s the software. Do not depreciate it. C1 Live is not an adequate replacement. LAN sharing is superior in many instances.
-
Recursive view in the Library panel.
There needs to be the ability to show items in subfolders for the library panel. This should come with the ability to toggle on/off. Creating Smart Albums is not an acceptable replacement for this. This feature has been requested for years on the Community Feature Support forum and is the most popular request. It goes back as far as 2015.
-
Color tagging of folders in the Library panel.
This is very simple and should have been implemented long ago. Ability to match MacOS tags or echo color tags applied in Finder would be a bonus.
-
Number of files contained in a folder beside folder name in Library panel. This currently only exists in Catalogs but is needed in Sessions.
-
Image edit History.
Having an edit history logged and the ability to navigate would be tremendously helpful. Before/After button and ctrl/cmd click the tool tab reset aren’t realistic solutions.
-
RAW file support patches.
Rather than waiting on an entire xx.xx.xx release there should be quick and lightweight patches for RAW file support for newer cameras. Paid option for previous versions.
-
Ability to change/edit the accent color in the GUI.
There’s various GUI aspects that could benefit from better contrast or visual clarity. The ability to change the accent color from the default orange and change things like the browser/viewer star color from a low contrast gray would significantly help visually.
-
Legacy tool tab icons.
-
More powerful rename utility.
-
Ability to sync actions of the main Viewer to the Viewer Window. Currently only navigation between images syncs. Have the ability to sync compare and zoom with the main Viewer. This option needs to be able to toggle on/off.
-
Compare Variant across folders/ Multiple Compare Variants
The ability to compare variants in a different folder than the current Capture Folder or folder being viewed. Also allow for multiple Compare Variants.
- Toolbar button and keyboard shortcut to be able to pause “Auto Select Next Capture” Current options of Never, Immediate, When Ready and Auto Pause are lacking. More granular, manual control is needed. The toggle should be able to manually pause either the “Immediate” or “When Ready” options.
-
Focus stacking.
Shouldn’t have to rely on external software for this.
-
Reset all counters with a single click.
-
Ability to set process recipes to apply to a particular rating or color tag only.
-
Option to have all images pre selected in the import dialogue.
This used to be default now it isn’t. Should be optional.
-
Greater priority for preview generation. Use more of the hardware available.
-
Reset composition in one click, (crop, orientation and keystone)
-
Focus window auto navigates to where the camera auto focus point is set. Some cameras store autofocus points in metadata. This should be able to parse to the focus window.
-
Subfolders for Session Favorites.
-
Ability to create toolbar button or keyboard shortcut toggle .xmp sidecar generation on/off.
-
“Parent folder” naming token.
-
Better DNG support.
-
Official C1 plugin for Stream Deck.
-
Better optimization of hardware available (especially Apple Silicon)
- Export a mood board/contact sheet as .pdf. Not just a .html gallery

often ignored by development team
If they're "ignored", it's because they are not the most requested features.
It is a matter of documented fact (albeit from the days of the old forum) that feature requests are judged by Capture One on the basis of their actual popularity: it follows, as night follows day, that if a given request isn't implemented, it's because there's not enough interest in it.
QED.
I'm saying right now that most of the requests above are one-trick ponies.
And how do you know that "digital technicians" are the ones asking for this stuff?
Sounds like a(nother) made-up "fact" to me...

This is how.
As well as communication within the industry in person and online.1 -

Where did CO conduct popularity contest????

Imagine being so dense that you think focus stacking is a one-trick pony. Just let that sink in for a minute.

Keith the majority of top level Digi techs are too busy working to generally waste time on these forums where we know we aren't heard. However we do regularly communicate on our own forums that we created for our niche industry and it has now come to a point where the software we rely on for our living has been getting steered in the wrong direction for too long now. We as a collective have been in trying to communicate for years with the C1 development team on both public forums and via direct channels. We are getting ignored and its frustrating as hell when we have no other viable software option at this point in time.
Capture One will lose us as customers if they don't start taking notice and any of the competitors we have been reaching out to decide to launch anything usable.

@Alastair Woods
I could not agree more about C1 having been taken into the wrong direction for a while now. Around version 9 up until perhaps version 12 the trajectory looked really promising but recently the trend has been to cater to beginners, broaden the user base, and letting mobile solutions influence the desktop version.
It was not long after the same signs became present for Lightroom that I switched to C1.
Lightroom has received some good developments recently but their subscription-only model rules it out for me. I'll be looking at Darktable first, if I feel the need to abandon C1.

Alastair Woods what other Forums for C1 digis?

@Javier Sanchez There is a very active discord server with nearly 400 digis worldwide. Nobody is happy with C1 development.
