Camera support: Make camera support a downloadale module and entitle the version of C1 which was current at the time when a new camera hit the market
So, once a camera is supported by Capture One, the C1 version which was the most current at the time the camera was released by the camera manufacturer should support this camera.
If C1 software could download camera raw file support (and maybe lens support) similar to DXO Optics modules, and you would implement a version check then you could entitle the latest C1 version which was available when the camera or lens became available in the shops to support it.
An example:
- C1 version 16.3 released in October 2023
- CameraX hit the market in November 2023
- December 2023: C1 commits to implement support for this camera in near future, for 16.3 and higher
- C1 version 17.0 released in January 2024
- C1 CameraX support ready in Feb. 2024
- Feb 2024: Customers running 16.3 or above could download and use this cameraX module and their C1 installation can use it.
Benefit: Once C1 commitment is out, customers can buy or upgrade to the respective version (e.g.16.3 as above), no doubts on customers side to which version to upgrade to, or when to upgrade, no need for money reimbursement procedures, C1 makes early revenue and has happy customers.
Don't know how (technically) feasible this could be for tethering support though.
This feature and release policy request is partially based on this article and discussion:

My prediction is that this will never be realised. Obtaining camera support will be the prime reason in the future for people to upgrade. Capture One is not going to prevent people from buying new versions by making it easier for them to stay on the same version.
