Turn off 'search as you type'?
Is it possible to turn off 'search as you type'? With the current searching/filtering function it doesn't work very well as Capture One always becomes unresponsive before I've finished typing the search term.
(One possible workaround is, of course, to type the search term elsewhere, copy it and then paste it into the search field in Capture One, but it would be more convenient not having to do this.)

I agree - it can be really annoying.

Although I don't have this problem (maybe not enough images, yet) I see that such an option makes sense. You would start the search with the Return key on the keyboard, right?

Yes, that's what I had in mind, starting the search by hitting the return key after you've finished typing the search term.

As it appears there's no such option, I've made a request – here.

Clicking the enter key to start the search would be the logical way to do it, especially if you have multiple search criteria. You can do the same thing if you wait to check the box(s) (orange check mark, below) until after you type the word to search (bird in this example, below). Then, there is no delay when typing. If the box is checked before you enter the word to search on, there is a delay between letters.

Thanks for the tip, Jerry! Very useful.

Well implemented 'search as you type' fields have a time-out set to something like 500ms. The timer is reset on each new keypress so that the search only occurs after you pause or are finished typing. This is done to prevent exactly the behaviour seen here.
