The first thing I'd want to ask is what version of MacOS  are you running? Is it supported by Capture One 23?

That should be OK. If you are not on the latest release of Capture One 23 (release 16.0.2) it would be worth updating to that. And it would be worth experimenting with changing whether hardware acceleration is on or off in the General section of Capture One settings.

It is very slow for me too. Capture One 16.0.2.21, Mac OS Ventura 13.2.1, 16" MacBook Pro, M1 Max 64GB, 8TB). I really hope they fix this.

I didn't have time to try the new release to be honest. I rolled back to Capture one Pro 22 although I realized that some of my sessions created with C1 23 won't work with C1 22 :(

It's all very frustrating because it makes you feel that you gear is too slow and that you constantly need to up upgrade to get the latest stuff

Same here! Big performance drop between C1 21 to 23. 10 core iMac Pro 64 GB ram and C23 i much slower than C21.

I have moved from Lightroom to C1 because LR was too slow after few upgrades, now it is the same case with C1?! i know that M1, M2 are stronger machines, but really good coding and optimalisation should not be abandoned because there are stronger and stronger machines on the market.

Not mentioning because it is a different topic, but UX design is worse than it used to be - scrolling tools not working.

Like everyone here same problem with capture one 23. i own a macbook pro M1. Capture One 23 is unbelievably slow and to be honest it makes me sick to work on this program, it's embarrassing and incredibly annoying..if there is anyone from capture one reading this I hope you will fix this because you are taking the money and we are getting worse and archaic product. Think about it....

My friend was using C21, upgraded to C22 and experienced big performance drop. Got the refund and got bac to C21. For me C21 is last workable version of CO.

As always for professional users I would rather have increased performance than new features. Unfortunatelly older versions of CO are not working on new systems.

Same here I went from Capture one 21 to 23 and it's so much slower on 23 to the point I feel there's something wrong.

Andrew Jacona - what exact version of Capture One 23? What exact version of Mac OS?

If you feel there's something wrong, perhaps there is. Have you tried contacting support to see whether the can help you work out what?

    Hi Ian,

I am running Sonoma 14.0 on a Mac M1 with 16gb and the version of Capture one 23 is build 16.2.5.9

Ah I see what may have been the issue! .. files from a new GFX 50SII camera are way slower than files from my older Sony A7III camera. The files from the old camera are snappy while the files from the GFX are laggin because of their size I suspect.

I'm experiencing the same issues. Tethering is much slower in particular.

I'm running the latest 16.3.6.6 on a M2 Macbook Pro with 64GB Ram on MacOS Sonoma 14.2.1

I just purchased a yearly subscription. imac 4.2 GHz quad core intel 17 running Monterey 12.4   While it worked for one day is was great tethered to a Nikon z9.  On the second day it worked sometimes and on the 3rd day it works but in super slow motion.  Takes about 30 seconds to get an image on the screen after shutter release.

Totally unacceptable.  I thought I was purchasing professional software here but it's complete garbage.  I'm 57 years old nearing the end of my photographic career.  And since I went digital 20 years ago I've hated most of it; particularly the computers and software.  It's a constant battle keeping everything working and I'm fuckin tired of it big time!  Come on Capture One time to get your head out of your ass and figure out why it's not working for Mac users.

Tethering issues can be sourced in many factors – computer port, cable length, cable quality, etc. I have tethered plenty and had few issues on macOS. I use high quality cables 3 meters or shorter. I use a Z9, have used a Z9 and D850 and D800.

You say that you are running Monterey 12.4. The release notes for the latest release of Capture One say that it supports from Monterey 12.7 onwards. Possibly you need to upgrade your MacOS?

I've tried multiple different cables.  Long one from my hasselblad, a really short one.  They both worked for a while now none of them do.  The program takes forever to open and a long time to connect to the camera.  But sometimes the program opens fast and when it does the camera connects fast as well.  But then a few shots later I'm back to slow motion  The cables are fine on the Hasselblad

thanks Ian.  I'll try upgrading the OS.  Always hate doing that.  Seems to cause other problems but hey what do I have to lose?  I just remember days of film when I didn't have to be an IT guy to take a picture of something

Also look at what other software is running on your system that might be competing with Capture One to control or access the camera – Google Drive, Dropbox, etc – that might be trying to do automatic backups of the files on the card, or Nikon software that interfaces with the camera.

Ian & Walter-  Thanks Ian I did upgrade the OS a couple notches and guess what   Capture works so thank you very much I appreciate it!  Everything seems fine the only thing that's strange is when I boot up this mac I get a message that says     your mac shut down because of a problem   even though it shut down normally.  But at least I can shoot now.  And sorry for the rant yesterday

Sonoma 14.3.1 and C1 16.2.0 and yes - client and model and MUA and assistant - everybody standing and watching the display for 10 minutes after last shot. Files landing on the computer but rendering super slow

    The release notes here

    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/10915314545565-Capture-One-23-16-2-0-release-notes

say that Capture One 16.2.0 supports MacOS up to release 13.3. So it may be that your version of Capture One 16.2.0 won't work properly on MacOS 14.3.1.

RBeci - if you want help with that please tell us more than just "same here". What exact version of Capture One and of MacOS? And what actions exactly are going slow in your experience?

    Dear Ian,

    C1 version: 16.3.8.2038

    Win10

    CPU: i7-8700K

    48 GB RAM

    1 TB M2.SSD - 100 GB FREE

It often happens that C1 does not respond or is slow to react to any operation or adjustment. All programs are closed, and CPU usage is low.

    Thank you!

The system requirements are listed here.

    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002466277-Capture-One-System-Requirements-and-OS-Support

For 16.3.8 it says the minimum Windows version is Windows 10 (21H2). As a Mac user, I am not very familiar with Windows versions, but if your version of Windows 10 is less than 21H2, maybe upgrading it would help.

Alternatively, there are some things that can slow Capture One down. If you have Full Sync enabled in the Metadata section on the Image tab in Preferences (Settings) try turning that off. See screenshot.

If you are using a catalog, how large is it? Is Capture One still slow if you start a new small session? Are your images stored on the internal SSD?

    Dear Ian,

You are really kind to answer so quickly. My Win10 version is: 22H2

Thank you so much for your advices I will check it out.

The catalog size is: 2+54+481 (per folders), the images are on an m2.SSD and there is 100GB free space.

    Best Regards

    Beci
