Renaming image files on import: More advanced options for numbering patterns
What problem do you see this solving?
Renaming image files on import should allow for the following pattern:
name-yyyymmdd-#
where # counts the images taken on that day and numbers them accordingly (Ex: name-20221120-1, name-20221120-2, name-20221121-1, name-20221121-2).
Currently, if one of the "digit counter" tokens is selected, the images are counted per import (and the counting will continue on the next import, if you don't reset the import counter), not per day. This does not allow for the above mentioned naming pattern if you import only every few days or once a week rather than every day (for example, on a multi-day shoot).
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
Always when importing image files.
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?
Yes, I use a workaround within C1 and/or use the Lightroom Classic Import dialog as another solution, depending on circumstances.
C1 Workaround
(1) Import from camera via C1 (Copy to Folder) using a nested folder structure with years, months and days (.../2023/03/04)
(2) Batch rename (Image Menu) files per day (nested folder) and resetting Rename Counter each time before, using the following renaming pattern (custom preset) "name-Image Year(yyyy) Image Month(MM) Image Day of Month(dd)-1 Digit Counter"
Other solution: Importing via Lightroom
(1) Import from camera via Lightroom (Copy), using the Filename Template Editor with "Date" and "Sequence #" templates.
(2) Import into C1 catalogue (Add to Catalog)
