Assign Metadata Preset BEFORE shooting?

Is there some way to choose a metadata preset to be the default for a session prior to beginning to shoot?

I'm accustomed to using "Copy from Last" in which the preset is assigned to an image in the job and subsequent captures grab it from their preceding images. However, that does not work all the time for us.

I prepare sessions for the photographer who prefers to focus on images and leave admin stuff (which metadata falls under) to me. And I'm not at the shoot. Often that setup is skipped. It would be way easier for me just to choose a default preset during the setup for that session than to attach a camera and take a test shot just to apply that preset.

Or am I missing something? Is there a more straightforward way? Is there any chance that the Next Capture Metadata Tool will not be exclusive to C1Pro Enterprise?
