Subject Selection Masking
ImplementedWhat problem do you see this solving?
The magic brush is not reliable for selecting subjects in our photos. Whether they are animals, people, automobiles, products, etc. Even with the magic brush on the lowest tolerance and with the "sample entire photo" unchecked the magic brush still neglects to conform to only the areas we are attempting to select.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?We are affected with each and every photo we edit, every single day and after seeing what you can do in Lightroom now, with multiple object selection masks, ai masks on facial features and body features - Capture One feels very underwhelming and limited.
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?
Yes, I'm relying on Photoshop as everyone always has for subject selection, but subject selection and modification of image data especially since it's mostly always exposure data and HDR data that we want to modify separately from background and foreground, should be done with our raw editor. I'm sure you would agree.
Are you happy to be contacted further about this suggestion or request?
Yes

Correct but for some reason Steve still hasn’t updated the request via the template they’ve clearly outlined. Happy to remove this one and focus attention on that post if it’s been approved for moderation and not hidden per the moderators

This needs to happen. The sky as well.

Hey David, I agree, there are several areas that should be easily selectable at the click of a button, and with the new ridiculously crazy individual AI features (eyes, mouth, face, object, each individual person, etc) selections that LR has implemented, its become more and more difficult to convince them that c1 is where they should be for their raw editor. Everyday I show off amazing c1 features that are a DAILY part of my workflow and that LR is awful at, BUT their AI selection features just sky rocketed. You can now create presets based on those ai selections and holy cow, wedding, portrait, and event photographers are going nuts!

Totally agree with Danny Batista. Capture One is my daily Raw editor and those features would be so welcome, please implement them soon, LR has a clear advantage on that department right now

This would be a game changer for C1 and many of my peer’s workflow. A more robust AI Subject Selection is critical to us as wedding, and portrait, food, and Real Estate photographers. Please make this happen!!
6 -
You're exactly right Danny. Not having AI masking/selection has become a major drawback to what is otherwise a superior RAW editor.
3 -
Totally agree with Danny Batista! Please, give us AI detection as Lr has them

I have NEVER liked Lightroom and never fully adopted using it. Once I started using Capture One, I was immediately sold. Once C1 started enhancing their masking features (magic brush), I was excited that I would be able to do 90% of my editing in C1 versus let's say 70/30 C1/PS. Masking is so critical that it should not be underestimated. Controlling color over every single facet of your photo through masks would be edge leading. If there is one feature that i feel needs to cross this finish line through enhacement, this would be it. I can create a mask through the magic brush but cannot do the inverse of erasing through the same coding, which (in my mind) should be easy enough for the programmers since it's already written, just need to do the inverse. Please look at this feature and the value add it would bring to professionals so that we can continue to promote what a fantastic product this is.

100% agree with Danny. C1 is amazing but the AI selections in LR are next level and really speed up workflow when dealing with large amounts of images.

I totally agree with Danny. This is the one thing that is missing to make capture one the number one editing software on the market
3 -
I also agree with Danny. Can we make this happen?

...You can now create presets based on those ai selections and holy cow, wedding, portrait, and event photographers are going nuts!....
Since most wedding, portrait, fashion, event and product Photographers use C1, this request will definitely into priority list as LR's latest masking capability already imposed a pressure on C1... But the question is when can we see them? The way C1 have have been launching features in recent releases, I see more weightage is towards iPad, Live, Sync, Cloud based solutions.. ZERO investment in HDR, Pano and key Core tools...

@...
I am well aware of HDR, Pano and Dehaze releases as I was part of Beta testing during which exchanged discussion with C1 Engineers. C1 went for one "Bug Fix" release for HDR/Pano tools after initial release.
My point was that C1 didn't put any "investment" to take those tools further where they need to be...

come on we need this

We really do need this! I was watching a friend use Lr to edit an image we both took to compare. Subject or Backdrop selection in Lr made his editing SO much easier and faster. Magicbrush and/or colour selection does not cut it, especially when both the subject and backdrop share colours. Please get this updated, it would be tool I use consistently.

Agree with Danny, those features which are ALREADY available in LR is a MUST HAVE for C1. And this applies to both C1 Pro and C1 for iPad.
1 -
Would someone show me a picture or a video where this feature is represented in a good manner.
I did compare the AI selection of PS an LR and the one of PS is much better and can easier changed than the solution of LR.
I bet that Adxbe is so dumb that the teams do not share its technology, that would explain why everything is different in each app.

Watch this to understand the dramatic ability for this technology to change the way you edit. https://youtu.be/ste-IdhQRlc

I so agree with Danny and the rest here. We need the Ai masking. And we need it as fast as possible. Lightroom is already miles away when it comes to masking. But C1 is so much better raw coverter and I am sure they can make even better masking then Lightroom and On1. I do alot of landscape and also portret and masking is a very big part of my work. So please give us Ai mask as fast as possible.

I agree, just done a 30 day trial on LR (my first time) - the functionality is very good indeed. Not yet a reason to switch, but getting closer.
2 -
Agree. Subject detection is a really important feature which I've sorely missed since switching from LR. Switched to C1 due to LR issues with Fuji sensor RAW file rendering. Real achilles heal in C1's feature set right now. Any news if in pipeline and when?
1 -
It's in the pipeline. I haven't heard about when the beta or first release will be.

We are all waiting the same.0 -
Absolutely agree. Capture One is miles better than Lightroom in almost everything, especially the most important thing, which is image quality. Except for selections and now denoising. But while better denoise is nice to have, subject selection is such an incredibly powerful feature, makes almost every workflow so much easier and quicker that this single feature makes you think about switching to Lightroom.
1 -
I totally agree. Lightroom has a huge advantage at the moment, cause they have the AI-selection. This makes the editing so much faster. Happy to here that you're working on it.
1 -
The AI denoising can be easily done by other software in RAW preprocesing and to be honest, I wouldn't use the one in LR now either. But the AI masking is really missing.

Hi all,
i wish also a tool which is able to create a sharp mask with curves like a path tool in photoshop.
And a function to add or subtract a mask from an other layer.
And a function to export and Import a mask. Don`t like to do a mask twice… (there is a work around: export: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yILTmWz9DT4 import: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yILTmWz9DT4 )
best regards Luggi
