When I first moved to C1, I imported 300000 images into a catalogue and it took over 22 hours. Your import on average seems to be a little slower, but not by much.

I would put a support request in. I have not seen either of these behaviours before so it is hard to say what the problem is. You could try switching you Hardware Acceleration off in Preferences....
