Haven't found anything unusal in the log files and I'm not sure how to debug this further. In the meanwhile I've downgraded to 7.1.4 ...

That's strange. I just got this on my last shoot today with a brand new tethered session. The first 3 images took ages to load, had to revert to lightroom for tethering. 7.1.4 worked perfectly snap...
