Thank you, yes I found that thread and it seems this is my problem - I am using a Mac with a GeForce GTX970 card by EVGA - it's sold for Windows computers but there are official NVidia Mac drivers ...

Update: I removed V 9.1.2 and tried V 9.1 - same problem.And now I can't launch version 8 either, it crashes and quits immediately on launch.
