Soft Proof
How about when you switch to two renditions of an image side by side, and then click on the "soft proof " icon ... it only soft proofs one of the pair. This way you can see say , the left version, with your normal screen profile 16 bit Profoto and the other proofed to your intended art paper. This way any changes to the image because of the icc will be obvious, and the ability to judge curves etc far easier. I use an Eizo monitor and have a screen profile for printing to reduce the screen contrast to 200:1 so paper contrast simulation is not required and any simulation I would like to have a check box to turn off

Capture One is continually soft proofing.

The best you can do is to set 16 bit Profoto profile as your proof profile in the View menu and switch paper export recipe proofing on/off via the button.
And maybe upvote

Walter I understand and use the singular constant proofing , however if you note I mention it is singular, and therefore no ability to compare.l As this entire software is based on a GUI , being able to see both the normal screen image ( say Pro Photo 16 bit ) and a proofed version for a particular paper or usage, allows the user to see side by side the changes. So I repeat allow one of two side by side images to carry the normal screen proof and the other the SOFT proof selected.

Hi Ken Crook.
Softproofing should be improved in several ways, so pls. follow my link and see if this feature request is valuable to you (EDIT:) and then upvote.
When you sometimes print, or let print, it should. For your own idea, consider creating a feature request

Photoshop allows for this even in the now almost free relic CS6 !

Yes it does through Adobe Camera Raw.

Adobe Camera Raw converts the raw data into Adobe's internal representation which I'm told is Adobe DNG. Everything else inside PS originates from there.

you are confused... the source of confusion is that Adobe ACR/LR were designed to work identically with a raw as written by camera's firmware and with DNG generated by Adobe's tools (ACR/LR/Adobe DNG converter) of the same version from that same raw ( there is a difference lately that breaks this with introduction of Adobe's AI/ML NR/demosaick, etc - there DNG generated using those methods are not equal to how Adobe will work with original raw or with DNG resulted from conversion from that original raw )
