Is this with a Late 2011 MBP, a 2.4 or 2.5quad as apposed to the 2.2/2.3 version. I have a few 2.3's and haven't noticed such drain. Have you tried disabling OpenCL?

I just find the laptop drives kinda sluggish. I may get the 250gb ssd (512 is an option now!!) and then back up to the externals. I wish Chrono would sync to multiple destinations....

You really should create a support case. It may be that one or more of the preview files are corrupt, you might try deleting the cache folders that are in the session folders.
