For those who have pre-ordered an upgrade for Capture One 21
If you have pre-ordered an upgrade for Capture One 21, you will receive your new license key via email from FastSpring.
NOTE: Your current license key (which you entered before an upgrade) will be replaced by that new license key sent via e-mail.
What should you do next?
1. Deactivate the Capture One version you are currently running from the menu Capture One -> License (masOS) or Help -> License (Windows). Get more details on the deactivation process in this article.
2. Launch Capture One and the Activation window will pop up. Enter your NEW license key in the License Code field. Please check the article on how to activate Capture One for further reference.

What do you mean by "Requested Profile"?
Are you unable to activate V20 with the new key? If so what message do you see when you attempt the activation process?

I have the exact same problem as Jamie Robertson. When trying to reactivate Capture One 20 with the new licence code after deactivating it, under 'online activation' in the reactivation dialogue box, you are asked for your e-mail (no problem) but you are unable to enter any of the other details in that section of the box (such as first and last name and country) If you press the 'get profile' button below the e-mail box, another dialogue box opens which asks for your profile password. pressing the button 'email my password' has no effect - no e-mail is received - (I have checked all spam folders etc). You can't progress to reactivate Capture One and have no program to use at all!
Could you please advise what to do as I need the program to work.

The solution seems to be to enter a new password under one's "profile" on the Capture One website. Once I did that I found that I was able to proceed to (re)activate Capture One. Turns out it is very easy - but at the time it seemed impossible to me. The Profile relates to one's profile setting on the Capture One webpage. A clearer direction from Capture One would have been a great help (and maybe if I were a bit more adept).

I had no idea I was supposed to deactivate/activate with the new license key. I put in my old license I got with COP20 and it rejected it... so I put in my license I just got for COP21 and it went through. Activated with my new license key. But I didn't deactivate the old key.. must have done that in the process.. I'm assuming.
Just to make sure, Do I need to deactivate that old key, after the new key is activated?

Users with the subscription plan do not have to upgrade as they always have access to the latest version.

When you get the new key after an upgrade, the old one will be automatically disabled.
Thus, you will have to use only this new key to activate the current version you have as well as the upcoming one.

Worked perfectly for me. Launched C1 20 right after buying the upgrade, window came up saying my [old] activation code didn't work and "inviting" me to deactivate, which I did. After C1 quit I relaunched it, entered the code that was included in my emailed C1 21 receipt, and all's good. Worked the same on 2 machines. Just have to follow the instructions...

I am awaiting the Capture One Pro 21 license code. Paypal reports that payment has been authorized, but I have not received anything from Fastspring.
This is not a good situation as I have work to do...

Since I have to get things done here, what i have done is gone ahead and purchased a monthly subscription to Capture One Pro 20. That gave me a license code so that I can use the application I purchased some months ago despite having ordered the Capture One Pro 21. I am trusting that the Capture One folks will refund the money for the subscription under the circumstances.
Perhaps this resolution may help others who absolutely have to get their work done.

I have downloaded beta version C21 but found that I would have to "upgrade" all the previous catalogues to V21 (which is just beta) and not being able to open them in C20 any more ? That does not sound very good ?

I'll be careful here not to break the "no discussion of the beta" rule. (And I am not in the beta programme.)
With any new version of Capture One, you have to upgrade sessions and catalogs to the format used by the new version. (That's the same whether it is a beta or a production version.) This is because a new version will typically have new features and the database structure for the session or the catalog has to be upgraded to accommodate them. You should find that whenever you upgrade a catalog or a session, Capture One saves a backup version of the old catalog or session database in the old format. You can revert to that if you like and use it with the older version of the software. Also, you don't have to upgrade all your sessions and catalogs - only those that you try the new version with. So if you are just trying a new version out (whether a beta or a full production version) you would be well advised to try it out on just one session or catalog at first - perhaps a newly created one for the purpose of testing the new version.

Sincerely - I find this attitude (forbidden comments about V21, "secrets" and nothing to mention about it by the manufacturer) as incredibly awkward ... Pushing people to pre-order it all the time but not telling them why they should do it is strange. Any normal manufacturer would happily share all the great news and features about the new version - because it is just normal and natural to attract people and let them know. To make a restrictive dark event out of it is just weird and does not bring much positive energy about the manufacturer.
The fact that you cannot contact them at all (the support submit button does not work) and that to sign in to this a bit strange forum is also almost impossible (while to make a normal simple discussion forum is incredibly easy) is also not very encouraging.0 -
Jj kk. I think that C1 not sharing all the great news and features about the new versions in general tells it’s own story. The last couple of releases have been at best, underwhelming.
Was hoping to have let go my Adobe subscription by now but i don’t think that’s going to happen soon. Indeed i think i may reconsider my move to C1 given the on going costs.0 -
I don't know what the great news and features are, not being a beta tester (and if I were a beta tester I wouldn't be able to say). But I'd just comment that it has always been this way. It has been their established practice for years not to trail in advance what new features there are going to be in the next version. We are always free to wait and see, then decide to upgrade or not. The most you lose by doing that is the discount for early purchase.

I guess with a subscription only model it really does not matter what new developments are included it makes no difference to people paying.
Indeed one could promise anything and not deliver it (or deliver it and then spend months making it work) and it would make no difference to business cash flow because if people were to stop paying they would lose the facility to edit with those tools with which they were familiar.
Perhaps that is preferable?

I enthusiastically reacted to the C21 campaign and prepaid it ... Now I got the beta version ... hmm, maybe I should have been less enthusiastic :)) Not sure if a refund applies ? :)

What is a single user license, is it for 3 seats that means I can download C1 in there different computers that have user, myself for example ?

When there are 3 activation seats provided with your license key, it means that you can activate the software on 3 workstations of yours.
Please, also note that the software may be installed and activated on up to three computers provided that the software is used on one computer at a time and only by the same individual irrespective of the number of installations.

It seems that you are having some problems with your system activating Capture One.
I bought capture One 21 and tried to activate the newest downloaded version of capture One 20 like described above - using my new activation code.
The code works, but after filling in my email address to get the profile password, I do not get any email with the profile password. What's wrong?
It was never so complicated to activate a new version of photo editing software.
Unfortunately you also do not have online support, which could be contacted directly.
Do you have any idea, how I can get it started?

What I find annoying with this release is not so much the, "Not being allowed to discuss it", it's the fact that they've been doing the slowest "Reveal" by email ever...it seems like it's been going on for months.
It's as if their marketing team is trying to bore me to death. It's got to the point that I just delete the emails now.

I have bought C1 V20 and that key is dropped after I took a subscription. Now if I don't want to use 21 anymore can I use 20 again? I experienced a major bug now....
