Have you tried other cables, or D800 bodies, is an excellent question. I've experienced both those problems too.

what usb port on the mbp are you plugging into? The one on the right seems more solid on my mbp. how long is the cable? What brand cable are you using?

I figured out how to add the profile. When I apply in the Tiff process recipe the image contrast is greatly reduced. Almost looks like it has a film over the image.
