Starting with version 3.0, Capture One mobile supports working directly from external storage. You can open and work with Sessions or Catalog documents stored on an external drive, shoot directly to external storage when tethering, or move documents between internal and external storage as needed.
To ensure smooth performance, it's important to use the right type of storage and connection.

Recommended storage options
For optimal performance when working off of an external drive or/and with a large Session or Catalog, use a fast external SSD. SSDs offer the speed needed to handle high-resolution images and editing tasks.
Connection type:
Use a USB-C connection for stable, high-speed data transfers. This setup minimizes lag during image browsing and speeds up both import and export between your mobile device and external storage or laptop.
Using a PD Hub with USB-C and Pass-Through Input:
To maintain power while using external storage, choose a USB-C hub that includes a PD pass-through input. This allows you to connect your USB-C charger (or powerbank) to the hub while simultaneously connecting an SSD or camera. It's an ideal solution for workflows that demand both power and storage access without interruption.
Things to avoid when using external storage
- Outdated USB-A cables or ports: Don’t use old USB-A connections (e.g., USB 1.0 or 2.0). They’re slower and prone to disconnection.
- Complex connection chains: Avoid chaining multiple devices together. Each added connection increases the risk of unstable performance.
