Capture One won’t launch: “Important application files are missing or are incompatible with this version” (Windows)

On Windows, Capture One may fail to start and display the following error:

“Important application files are missing or are incompatible with this version. Try restarting your computer or reinstalling Capture One.”

In many cases, this happens because the required Microsoft Visual C++ (VC++) runtime libraries are missing or damaged.

Symptoms

Capture One relies on Microsoft runtime components to load certain modules at startup. If the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables are not installed (or are corrupted), Windows may fail to initialize required DLL dependencies, and Capture One will show the missing/incompatible files error. You may see one or more of the following:

• Capture One does not open after clicking the icon

• The “Important application files are missing…” message appears

• Capture One closes immediately during launch

In some cases, Application.log includes an error similar to:

Unable to load DLL 'ImgCoreDll.dll' or one of its dependencies: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. (0x8007045A)

Note: The DLL file can still be present on your system. This message often means that a dependency required by the DLL is missing.

Resolution: Install or repair the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables

Install (or repair) the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015–2022.

Step 1 — Close Capture One

1. Quit Capture One.

2. If Capture One is stuck, open Task Manager and end the Capture One process.

Step 2 — Install both x64 and x86 packages

1. Download the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015–2022 from Microsoft and run both installers:

   • vc_redist.x64.exe (64-bit)

   • vc_redist.x86.exe (32-bit)

2. If prompted, choose Repair (recommended).

Important: Even on 64-bit Windows, installing the x86 package can be required.

Step 3 — Restart Windows

Restart your computer after installation/repair.

Step 4 — Launch Capture One

Open Capture One again.

Special case: Capture One crashes or won’t start on Intel Arc graphics

On systems using Intel Core Ultra processors (e.g. Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 or Intel® Core™ Ultra 7) with Intel Arc graphics, Capture One may fail to start or crash during launch due to an unstable graphics driver state.

Recommended solution:
Reinstall or repair the Intel Arc Graphics driver (WHQL).

• Download the latest Intel Arc driver directly from Intel.

• Run the installer and choose Repair, or perform a clean reinstall if the issue persists.

• Restart the computer before launching Capture One again.

Reinstalling the driver resets the graphics runtime and has been shown to resolve launch and stability issues in many cases.

If the issue persists

Try the following:

1. Reinstall Capture One

   • Uninstall Capture One (How to uninstall Capture One)

   • Restart Windows

   • Install Capture One again using the latest installer

2. Check security software

   • Temporarily disable antivirus/security software or add an exception for Capture One

   • Try launching again

3. Install Windows updates

   • Install all pending Windows updates

   • Restart Windows
