Image processing (resizing) no longer works
This is so frustrating. I have some downloaded images I am attempting to resize using the 'process' command (cmdD). I have been doing this exact thing for years. Harvest some fairly low resolution images, and simply upscale them in C1 using this. Now it no longer works. These are all jpegs, and C1 simply greys out the option to process them. No idea why. They are not super small images - just slightly less than 1080 pixels high, and I am upscaling them to match that dimension.
Nothing about my system nor Capture one has changed that I can see - it just decided to no longer work.
So incredibly frustrating..

Have you checked that editing of JPGs is checked on in Preferences/Settings (on the Image tab).?
And can you show us a screen shot of the settings in the export recipe you are using?

Hi Ian, thanks for asking....
1) Yes, the check boxes are just as you show above. I have attached the process recipe I have been using for years - it scales images via the height dimension, and the width depends on the aspect ratio.
I have not changed this recipe in years...it just stopped working.

I have also tried lowering the resolution to 72px/in
I have also tried building a new recipe from scratch. No joy.

- Did you try it with just one image selected? Did you try different images?
Have done both. No difference
- When you say "grays out the option to process them", exactly what do you mean? What is grayed out? Are you selecting File/Export?
Under the file menu, there is the command "Process", with a shortcut command-D. This is not an export preset, it is a processing one. As in, take these selected images, and upscale them. The recipe places the new images in a subfolder marked 'output' under the folder the originals are in. I then manually delete the old, and move the upscaled versions to the main folder.
- Are you 100% sure that the desired export recipe has a checkmark by it. Many people think that when it's highlighted, that's enough, but the highlight does not enable that recipe for export. You must have a check by it. And, while you're at it, make sure no other recipes have a check by them.
This is not an export recipe. I do not see anywhere in the recipe to check a box. Also, it works on some images, but not others - with no 'check box' action between a working or a non working image being selected.
- In the "Scale" setting, click that drop down. Toggle the Never Upscale to be ON. Then, toggle it to be OFF to just redo that setting.
Done
- Try reducing the JPEG quality setting to 80 as an experiment.
Done
- Try changing the ICC Profile to sRGB as an experiment.
Done
None of this made any difference. One thing I noticed when I pulled up an info tab (Mac OSX) between similar images - one editable, and one not (at least as far as resizing goes) is that the one that would not be processed had an sRGB color profile, while the one that WOULD work had no profile info at all (even the field "color profile" was missing.
Also, I noticed an icon in the lower right square of each failed image preview in Capture One: a pencil with a red line crossing it out (indicating non editable?). This is on every image that Caprture one refuses to edit, and is missing from those that WILL enable the 'process'
So now the question becomes how to get around that. Currently searching for an app that can strip color profile data from jpegs...
So it appears the color space is the culprit - and also that Capture one is the one with the resizing issue, as both OSX Preview app, and ON1 2019 WILL resize these images with no hiccups at all.
I guess in the past, I just didn't run into these color profiles enough to be bothered. I would like to keep my workflow all within C1 though.
I guess the move here would be to find a way within C1 to strip/change the color profile of images as a batch...any suggestions welcome...

Cmd-D does in fact export images to an output format (JPG, TIFF, etc). In older versions of Capture One the terminology was "process" and in newer versions the terminology for the same thing is "export". And what used to be called Process Recipes are now called Export Recipes. (I can't remember in which version they changed the terminology, but I'm pretty sure that it would have been later than version 20.)
Either way, what Cmd-D does is export/process the file using the currently selected export/process recipe. It's a shortcut in that you can do it that way without having the Export/Process dialog box open. But nevertheless it is using a recipe - it always uses a recipe, but with Cmd-D you don't see it. So it is worth looking to see what recipe is in fact currently active.

Ok, here are two images. The frog is the one that will not resize in C1

I uploaded these, and then downloaded them from this site, and brought them both back to C1...The frog still fails to resize, and the Mushrooms are fine.

This limitation remains. There is a support article that documents these restrictions.

Mac OSX 10.13.6. - yes I know it is an out of date system, I only wish I had frozen 'upgrades' two versions prior.

It does, thanks. Not sure why this limitation exists in C1, as Preview and On12019 have no problem upscaling jpegs less than 512 on a side...Guess I will have to filter those out, and fire up on1 to accomplish this..
Thanks to all who responded to this thread! A disappointing result, but at least the mystery is resolved - leaving only the mystery of WHY the coders at C1 put this block in... when rival photo software handles them with ease.
