Confused about "Open with"
I'm trying to use Epson Print Layout to print my images, as it as a simple sensible option to centre the images on the page, rather than mess about with fine adjustments to margins in the C1Pro print settings dialogue. The manual suggests Edit With or Open With; the latter seems appropriate as I don't want to edit the image. The manual says "The Open With command allows previously processed images (i.e., PSD, TIFF or JPEG files) to be opened in an external application." That sounds about right; I've done my editing (adjustments in C1Pro) and just want to print. However, when I try, the print looks all wrong. In fact it almost looks as if it's trying to print the source image, unadjusted.
Well, with a squint I could just about read what the manual says that way. I've just tried getting to EPL via EDIT With and the colours look right. But is Edit With seriously the right way to get an image into an external printing application? If not, what should I do?
I guess what I'd like is a mechanism that creates only a temporary file in passing the image to EPL, so I don't have to go back and delete files. BTW I'm in C1Pro 23 (Build 16.2.6.7)

Chris Rusbridge Hello,
I understand the confusion regarding "Open With" vs. "Edit With" when sending images from Capture One to Epson Print Layout (EPL). Here's how they work and what the best approach is for printing.
-
Open With (for pre-processed files – JPEG, TIFF, PSD)
- This command sends an already exported/processed file to an external application.
- However, it uses the file as it is saved, which might explain why you're seeing unadjusted colors.
- If no export has been done yet, it may open the source image rather than an adjusted version.
-
Edit With (for on-the-fly processing before sending to an app)
- This creates a new processed version with all Capture One adjustments applied.
- It allows you to specify file format, color profile, resolution, and bit depth before opening in an external application.
- This ensures the colors and edits appear correctly in EPL.
So personally I would just open with your printing app an already exported or processed image. Or use Edit With for a non-processed image.

Thanks, I'd read that article, and the "previously processed file" phrase was part of my confusion. To my mind, making adjustments was processing the file, though I now recognise that the source is not modified until exported.
Thanks for your reply, Sergi. It has helped improve my understanding.
I was going to reply to my OP something like "I think Open With simply passes across a link to the master file without any adjustments, whereas Edit With applies adjustments, creating a new file to pass to EPL". If I understand you correctly this is mostly true, but if a file has been previously processed via Edit With, then a subsequent Open With would use this version. Have I got that right?
I'm not quite sure how the "previously exported" bit works. If I export a file, it goes off to some other place, not linked (AFAICS) to the current printing effort!

Yes you have got that right.
