    Tom,

There were some issues with the official Catalina release.

A revised release of C1 was issued to address them (or maybe most of them - I'm not a mac person to the details are not on my radar.)

Have you already updated to the latest C1 release?

Hi Grant, yes, I am running the latest release or at least have installed the latest release of C 1 on Catalina, 10.15.2. The logs & Info I have sent to tech support was after my update so at least they have the most current.

Have you tried the "Turn off Hardware Acceleration" test to see if anything changes?

I can't at this point as the software crashes shortly after starting...

I was able to start the app and turn off hardware acceleration, I used the app for a bit and it didn't crash. So the question is, what does that mean other than it slows down Post Processing...

I would start with deleting the app, the cache and .plist files - see c1 help for how to do this, than reinstall c1.

also do you use sessions or catalogs ? and are your file local ?

( if you use sessions you could try this too - move the session folder to a different location so c1 does not see it at startup. you could also search for the catalog c1 seems to install as default in the user/images folder and delete it if you don't use the catalog )

and yes this is a rather shi..y release.

Interesting. I do use sessions, files local but the default catalog statement is interesting because when I start C 1, it opens my last session & an empty catalog window. I have reinstalled already but may try it again now removing the default catalog and moving the sessions to another directory...who knows. Thanks

It means that there is a likely mismatch of some sort between C1, the OS and the GPU driver software.

You should be able to find some log files produced by C1 as it starts up and runs.

One of the things that happens in start up is a check for what GPUs are available and, potentially, the creation of the kernel code requires to make the system configuration work.

If, for whatever reason, that process fails it can leave a part completed record of the process and that can, in some situations, introduce instability., Which is what you were seeing I would guess.

The Log files will record the information.

If you open the Activities tool window and them close and reopen C1 you may see the Hardware Acceleration assessment process running. It should be brief at worst. If it's slow there is likely some sort of issue.

On my PC I saw some situations where if first found the Intel graphics OpenCL capability and tried to assess it as the first device found. Its not powerful enough and so should be rejected but for some reason for a while that particular stage of the process ran slowly ad then crashed near the end (internal bad data access as far as I could tell). That meant the second phase for the proper GPU did not happen and thus caused some start up problems.

Subsequently the first failure was recognised as a "Previously rejected" situation and it skipped the Internal Intel device and went straight for the other OpenCL capable device and all was well.

You can take steps to force the re-assessment of the GPU devices. If the log files suggest a possible driver problem it might be worth checking for update drivers for the GPU(s) related to your specific hardware and OS revision. (Or the possibility that a new driver has been delivered but has some problems!)

Once you have checked the Log files this document may be of use to you.

one major change with Catalina is that file acces for apps is even more limited so this could also play a roll but I checked my system crash reports and could see c1 always crashed with the same thread which seems display related.

The software seems to work with the Hardware acceleration turned off. I uninstalled everything again, reinstalled and the software seemed to be fine, with acceleration on with the first session I opened but crashed when I opened another session. All Canon RAW files. My guess is that Capture One will get a fix release out before tech support has a chance to review my logs. I guess I will have to use the Windows version for the time being. Very annoying as a lot of folks are experiencing.

crashes can lead to file corruption and can cause issues for themself, have you tested to work with a clean new session ?

worked last week many hours with c20, when no other app is running c1 does not crash but with photoshop, affinity and other tools open things change and it crashes occasionally. turning of hardware acceleration also slows c1 down considerable.

That is my concern as well, corruption. Just listening here and Twitter, it certainly appears that C 1 is having issues, i.e. lots of complaints regarding slow response time from tech support, etc. At this point, I wish they'd give a time line on any patches on the horizon.

they released c20 with unsolved bugs from the very first beta version which is now soon 3 month ago !! no photographer could survive dealing with his clients the same way as p1 does with us . for me c1 has still some advantages over adobe but when things don't change and c21 is the same disaster I´m done.
