Cursor Tools and Mouse Interaction

My installation works as you require. (Win 7 using a notebook touchpad with left and right buttons equivalent to left and right mouse buttons.) 0 -
The suboptions appear or should appear when you long-click (left mouse button). Please note that you can also select a cursor tool by its keyboard shortcut. 1 -

I have been using a mouse for eons and this is the first time I have ever run into long click and short click, so much so I raised it as a bug in beta testing. 🤭0 -

I think short click and long click are misleading ways of describing it.(Sorry, Paul!) I would call it click vs press and hold. And perhaps it is particularly a thing that Mac users are more used to. On a Mac, for instance, you can start an app by clicking its icon on the dock, or you can see various options if you press and hold.

I see now that it's me holding the left click too long. However, I don't have this problem with any other software. So I would suggest adding some milliseconds to the routine before the sub options appear. 0 -

It's the same on Windows, single click docked app & double click desktop shortcuts.0 -

Did you try with a different mouse? I never had this problem on either Mac or Windows but it does make sense for right click only for sub options. Long, left click is redundant.0 -
I'm using a Logitech Vertical Ergonomic mouse. I did switch to my Logitech Performance MX and am having the same erratic and inconsistent interaction with the top cursor control buttons. I'll work on a quicker left click but would rather not. 0 -

I would call it press and hold when you need to keep the mouse button pressed enough for it to be perceived as a hold, which should be a long time compared to a click. With CO20 the press response is so immediate that seems to be set just to a slower click, I would call it a "grandpa's click" (no offense intended). Seriously you need to be just a little lazier on the left button to make tool's menu appear. Honestly I like it. It makes CO look more reactive compared to other programs where you need to wait a split second or more, but if you're not used to a Flash' click it can be annoying.0 -

Glad you view it as a challenge. I don't and am really struggling with the ultra quick click required to get to where I want. Frustrated enough to give it up C1 20 and go back to Lightroom after 4 years.0 -

I'm sorry for you but, is this enough to give up on CO? I mean, you know that your click will probably open the cursor tool menu. Ok, instead of trying to struggle with it, let it be. Go with it and get used to select the cursor with two clicks. Considering how fast the menu is to appear, what you need is going to be almost like a double-click. I don't think it's so unbearably time consuming, but if you need to change cursors so many times that it is really an unbearable issue, I would suggest you to learn and use keyboard shortcuts to recall cursor tools. They are few, they're easy to remember and in my opinion they are the quickest way to the right tool when you get used to them. Actually I rarely need to click anything on the cursor tools bar (that's why I didn't noticed it before). You can even assign custom shortcuts to cursor tools to have all of them in a row, so you can keep your free hand fixed on the keyboard. Last but not least, remember that many cursor tools are doubled individually in the relative tools. So I'm sure there's at least another way of working with CO, that you will soon get used to, that will avoid such a frustration.
Also before giving up you could open a support case to let Phase One know about your difficulties. They could fix the hold time response or add a new setting in preferences.
Don't give up!0 -
I have a vague idea that somewhere in Windows there is a setting about how quick mouse clicks and double clicks are. (Long time since I used Windows, so I may be misremembering what the options are.) Does that make a difference?

My Dell notebook's touchpad (effectively the equivalent controls to a mouse) has a number of settings related to "sensitivity" including for the speed of a "double click".
The control program also caters for Mouse button speed tuning and the same sort of controls for the included Pointstick.
That said the only effect I have noticed is that the default "Right Mouse Button" to obtain the drop down options for a tool in the toolbar seems to be more completely implemented and the left click and hold option that gives the same result seems to have a much more specific selection area that must be used. (That could be my imagination - it's not significant enough to make me want to interrupt what I am doing to test it.)

I second this. Just downloaded a trial and I'll be going straight back to Lightroom. When Im using my laptop if i tap my touchpad on a cursor tool i get the menu I finally worked out that if I click right down on the touchpad it will select it. This software is obviously written by Mac retards who can keep it. Wont be getting my money. This feature alone is enough to drive someone insane, being mactards they still havent heard of a right click. Must be using a mouse from an Apple IIe. Have tried older version in the past and they NEVER had this pathetic feature. I really liked the idea of sessions within capture one which is why i was going to switch but this annoy AF "feature" has really turned me off it. Even if they gave you the ability to turn it off would be nice but I guess mac users still dont know what a right click is or what the words "Choices and Options" mean. Good bye Capture one. Have fun in your little mac world with your littel mac buddies that have only 8% of the market
