Capture One opens a/the catalog by default
I did the upgrade from C1-12 and everything is working great. Except for one little strange change.
When I open Capture One 20 it opens the "catalog" by default.
This happens after a quit with no sessions opened. This was't the default behaviour for previous versions. I now have to press option when launching CaptureOne 20 to get back to the way CaptureOne used to launch. I'd like to be able to set this behaviour back to the way is was in the previous versions.
Does anyone know how to do this or should I report to support.
edit: Tidying up the title.

If you closed all open sessions and catalogs before quitting on the old version, what happened when you restarted? (I never do that, I just close the app with the current session or catalog open. I will want to resume in the same session or catalog next time, 9 times out of 10. I use the Alt key approach on the rare occasions when that is not the case.)

I see the same behaviour here and I think you could/should report to support.
The issue is that when I close all sessions/catalogs, I end up with the Recent dialog. After closing and opening CO20 again, it should start with that same dialog. It does not. I opens the default Capture One Catalog.0 -
The same here. It opens/creates a default catalog. After closing this catalog (cmd+w) and then close capture one (cmd+Q) it should not open any session or catalog at next startup but should show the window were you can choose last opened sessions.
Even if I delete the newly made catalog, which is placed in the pictures folder, it simply makes a new one.
Not what was in version 11 and 12. ☹️

the question is: bug or feature? 😁 0 -

CaptureOne used to launch (pre 20) with the recent window open or with your last session if you did't closed it before quiting C1.Paul_Steunebrink wrote:

For my sessions based workflow definitely a bug.
Since I have to close the catalog and rearrange my workspaces when used on my office workstation with a two screen setup. I haven't upgraded to 20 on macbook I use for shoots.Paul_Steunebrink wrote:

Thank you for your advice. I try and contact Phase One. I don't think it's Phase One's philosophy to purposely push the use of a catalog.0 -
Seems simple enough, on Windows you would go file/new session name it etc close Capture one and the next time you open it it will open in your new session. Alternately you can use the file menu to open an existing session, again next time you open CO it will open in that session. Don’t forget to set your preference for open in new window or not. 0 -

The scenario discussed here does not apply to Windows as on Windows, you can not close all sessions/catalogs and still have Capture One running. And that is exactly the scenario where Capture One forces the default catalog on next opening.
Other than that the Mac version works as you described.0 -

Thanks for the clarification, excuse my ignorance but don’t the software developers have to choose a default in that situation, if they choose to open a session then a different set of people will be complaining they want to default to catalog. 😊
Ideally I suppose the pop up with choice of recent catalogs and sessions should show in that situation which I see from earlier in this thread was what happened in the past, or something similar. I’m surprised no one picked this up in beta testing - there were enough of us.

In earlier versions, it did not open anything at all, which made the most sense, at least that is what I think. 😄 0 -
I have the same situation. Open after computer shut down and new catalog appears. Close then open again and my catalogs appear during opening, including my new empty catalog. 0 -
It seems to be the new default intended way upon launch.
support.captureone.com > Capture One > FAQ > Catalogs and SessionsThe catalog opens automatically upon launch
After installing and launching Capture One 20, the catalog opens by default upon launch.
If you do not want Capture One start with the default catalog, press the Option key (macOS) or the Alt key (Windows) whilst launching Capture One. That way, the Recents windows appears, so you will be able to choose the preferred catalog/session or create a new one.

You can also prevent the Default Catalog from displaying if you do not close the session/catalog you are working on prior to quitting Capture One. Keep the session/catalog you are working on open and quit Capture One.
In case you'd prefer to open more than one catalog/session at a time, apply the following settings.
Mac: Go to Capture One xx -> Preferences -> General -> Catalog and Session -> Tick 'Open in new window'
Win: Go to Edit -> Preferences -> General -> Catalog and Session -> Tick 'Open in new window'https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004127518-The-catalog-opens-automatically-upon-launch

Hopefully they revert to the previous behaviour OR give an option in the settings for it.0 -

This does not seem to work for me at all on my Mac. The default catalog opens anyway. Although this is by no means a deal breaker, it's an annoying and time-consuming departure from the previous behavior. Please change this to the former behavior, PHASEONE.0 -

You mean CAPTURE ONE. Phase One is not involved in the software anymore.0 -
Same behaviour for me, opens straight into the catalogue by default but as I use mainly sessions this adds an extra step and time to my workflow to then open the session. Keeping the Option key pressed during opening does not work on my iMac Latest MacOS) it still defaults to the Catalogue.
I have found by right pressing the C1P 20 Icon in the dock I do get a short list of sessions to chose from, so a workaround until Capture One fixes this, assuming they will.0 -

On some iMacs the Shift key works instead of the Option key to get the recent list.0
