    Hi Gabriel,

I think the best way to manage such an amount of pictures is not Capture One, but rather a dedicated catalogue management software. And you could keep Capture One for the development and processing of your still images (Capture One doesn't know anything about movies), provided working in session mode, as Capture One won't be efficient to manage a catalogue of such a size.

Thanks for your reply even I didn't expect this as an answer. I really hoped this was somewhere a functionality within Capture One maybe hidden.

As I am not familiar with any "Catalogue Management Software" it would be really nice from you if you could give me some recommendations. on top of it will it be able to interact with elements from Capture One like Keywords and other elements. ?

It would be really fantastic if Phase One/Capture One could implement this missing element into the next release as I am quite convinced I am not the only one which could use this kind function.

the video part would just be a nice to have functionality, but the main reason remains the pictures.

    Kind regards,

    Gabriël

Sorry Gabriel, as I don't have so many pictures, I use the Capture One catalogue, which is satisfactory to me. So, I don't know the catalogue management softwares, but if you type "photo catalogue softwares", you'll find some suggestions, I guess. I have heard about Dominion and PhotoMechanics, but never used them. And, accordingly, I don't know if they can share keywords, ratings, etc.... with Capture One.

But, because your catalogue would be too large for Capture One, I would suggest to work in session mode rather in catalogue mode in Capture One. In that case, keywords and ratings in Capture One would not be very useful, and you should only rely on those recorded in your catalogue software.

could I create a kind of master catalog based on existing catalog or are their limitation here by doing so. If this is possible to store those 600K into the master catalog then I could be using the User Collection functionality for the research.

I could find the max recommended number of pictures for a catalog size. (I also do understand it does depends on the hardware which in my case is a MacPro.

    You could try ACDSee https://www.acdsee.com/en/digital-asset-management/

They have a DAM module that has face recognition etc. They have a free trial and on sale. One of the local colleges use this for students to turn in their photography homework online.

    All the best.

C1 can not do this. I tried something equal but could not find a solution. There is a selection field implemented of which I would expect to work the way you are looking for, but it is without any functionality so far, see the screen shot below. However, C1 is actually not able to handle even small catalogs (databases) efficiently.
It is currently not even able to find a picture in the finder, let alone in the catalog itself. Take another software and use C1 for little catalogs and small adjustments only.

    Gabriel,

Frankly speaking, I strongly doubt Capture One would be able to manage a catalogue of 600,000 pictures. And creating collections is obviously not the solution, as collections are virtual sets created from the main catalogue.

I know people using catalogues up to 70k or 100k images, and it seems to work, but I don't think 600k would.

    Have a look at Phraseanet.

    https://www.phraseanet.com/en/

Open source, so free ... in contrast to the eye-watering costs of competing enterprise-level DAMs.

I have not used Phraseanet, as Capture One meets my humble needs, but it has some good reviews from French companies with large collections of images and videos.
