Garbled Metadata, EXIF and Keywords

I'm seeing extensive problems with metadata in NEFs when I sync annotations from external meta data entries. As a test today, I added keywords to a group of photos in PhotoMechanic. These photos were already imported into Capture One. After I synchronized annotations, the keywords became garbled.

Process:
1. Import photos into Capture One.
2. Outside of Capture One, add metadata in PhotoMechanic.
3. Back in Capture One, Sync Annotations (Import annotations from original files: Replace current

Some keywords come through just fine, but then I get a duplicate list of keywords with all kinds of strange characters.

Examples of strange keywords:
Exerciseˇˇˇˇ0
Walkö-ù4ˇˇˇˇd
hike∆Ôõ4ˇˇˇˇ
hikingü4ˇˇˇˇ
timelapseˇˇˇ

This problem does not show up in JPG files, only NEFs.

Another issue I found was that after rebuilding the files (Action --> Rebuild Item...), the EXIF changes the Flash setting to ON, even though no flash was used in the photo. I watched as each photo was rebuilt and the flash status changed one by one.

  Exactly the same problem. A showstopper for me, I can not afford this type of software to be unreliable with the metadata / keywords.
  How is it possible that they missed this themselves at phase one? Is this not core functionality?

  I have not seen this (on win7 32bit), are you on mac perhaps?
  Did you logged a supportcall for this?

  I do not have those problems with keywords and metadata on my iMac, it works allright ...
