Importing Lightroom files - mystery of the missing catalogue
After a couple of hours importing my Lightroom catalogue Capture One shows complete success but there is absolutely no sign on my computer of the resulting Capture One catalogue, has the program being saving the output to the bit bucket? Only thought is that my SSD c:\ drive is small and only used for programs etc. I understand CO tries to save to users pictures directory on C: drive - this should not be a problem in my case as this directory is a pointer to pictures directory on my D: drive. Anyway has anyone the faintest idea where my Capture One Catalogue has gone?

Not intending to discuss semantics, but do you mean you have lost the entire Capture One catalog, or do you still have the catalog but there is no single image imported?
When you import a Lr catalog into a CO catalog, you open that CO catalog first. You have to save it into a location of your choice when you create it. That is where you should be able to find it.
If you have closed it later on, you should be able to open it from either that disk location or from CO8 > File menu > Open Recent.0 -

I did "file/import catalogue/Another Catalogue" selected Lightroom5.lrcat and everything seemed to be going properly, the progress bar progressed and eventualy got pop up saying Catalog Import Complete, 31056 files imported 100 incompatible files, 60 offline files skipped, The imported catalog can now be found in user collections in your Library.
Only trouble is I am not sure what User Collections are supposed to be nor where my Library is supposed to be. This sounds awfully Unix/Linux/Mac to me. In Windows I would be looking in Users/David/Pictures and it is not there and a search of the whole file system shows only the small experimental Greece.cocatalogdb that I generated within Capture One and no sign of the very large catalogue imported from Lightroom.
I think after playing around with the import function and reading what you said that I had not realised that you had to first go File/New catalog set up a name and then import the lightroom catalog even though the program allows you to go directly to "file/import catalogue/Another Catalogue" and bypass that stage with no warning.0 -

That does not work either I really need a step by step description of how to do this - the sort of thing you would expect in a comprehensive user manual (see another thread 😊 )0 -
The Library is a tool in CO8, the left most tool tab, with a folder kind of icon. It displays the structure of a catalog. Collections are subsets in a catalog. More help to start with is online help.

Note that you must have created a catalog or running CO8 with a catalog before you are able to invoke the command to import the Lr5 catalog. It must be in the Open Recent list.0 -
Thanks Paul, I will stick with sessions for a while but will experiment with lightroom catalogue import futher - I might tire of Adobe rental fees some time soon. 😡 I fully understand the Lightroom import function is experimental.
