Using External Editor: almost there, small request
C1P8 still lacks a simple "external editor" option which mimics LR and/or Aperture (both of which I've used for a long time). C1P8 "process" options get me almost there, I'd just like PhaseOne to add one thing.
Background: I'm using a large catalog of 50k files; Raw files are in a referenced location. I will use Nik SilverEfex Pro as my external editor in this example and I've worked out a decent process for exporting a TIFF to SilverEfex Pro, then bringing it back into the SAME folder structure in my C1P8 catalog.
The process:
Make sure the referenced folders are set to Synchronize.
1) I created a "process" called "Silver Efex Pro" which is set to open a 16bit TIFF in that external editor. Select that process
2) change the Output Location "Store Files" field to the same directory the RAW is in.
3) run the process, Silver NX2 opens, I tweak the B&W conversion in Silver Efex and "Save"
4) Silver Efex Pro closes and I'm back to C1P8
5) the image is still not visible because I have not Sync'd the folder yet. I simply right-click on the folder and "synchronize" and the new B&W tiff version appears in the catalog and all is good.
My only suggestion or request here is that I don't want to have to select the "store files" folder in step 2. I just want it to store the resulting TIFF in the same folder as the raw from which it is rendered. Would it be possible to add another option to "store in same folder" in the drop down?
Or maybe there's a better way to do this?

I would also like for PhaseOne to add a way to not have to set the output folder every time. Dxo, in their Optics Pro software, allows you to always save to a subfolder of the folder containing the images being edited. I have the setting for jpgs automatically output to a folder named jpgs under the image folder, the one for tiffs automatically output to a folder named tiffs under the image folder, and so on.
Of course you could always have the images automatically output to the output folder under your session location (which is what I sometimes do), but that is not as easy as automatically knowing that the images will always be under your current folder in a pre-defined folder name.0 -

ja ! but this dont works with Catalog wen the files inside ! 😁
see my workflow hier
Thanks, but this thread is about keeping the images referenced, not in the catalog. I do that so I can put the Catalog on SSD drive and the images on a large array (spinning disk).0 -

If you're using a session simply switch the setting on any given process recipe to "File > Root Folder > Image Folder" and then type in the name of the subfolder you desire in the "Sub Folder" field. We cover hundreds of small tips like this in our Capture One Masters Program:

I'm not using Sessions. I'm using the catalog. Basically I'd like the same functionality in catalog to out put to the "image folder" and I can't seem to do it.0 -
If in the process recipe Image Folder is selected as Root folder, the processed file will be saved in the same folder where the raw file is. You just need to syncronize the folder to get it into your catalog. 0
