Advanced Search - unacceptable performance.

Best option here is to create a tech support case (via the link in my profile) and send us your log files, which can be generated via the steps here:

Out of interest David, do you also use the Synology Indexing option?

If so does that produce any results with the same search?

I would think that might be extremely dependent on a number of factors but it might be interesting to try it.

How is the Advanced Search defined?

Done this before and got the "cannot reproduce problem" reply. Now for no apparent reason advanced search has suddenly decided to work properly. What I did was Ctrl Click on two keywords in the filters panel, this selected all files matching either criteria. I then opened Advanced which showed the search I had selected, I then set my own criteria using the the same layout but selecting match both criteria and it worked instantly.
I just wish things would work repeatedly and consistently.
I will shut down completely and re-boot Capture One, wait 6 minutes for the Catalog to load completely (another case of Capture One wanting to touch base with all the files on the NAS) and see what happens.

I don't use Synology indexing. The Pictures directory on the NAS is mapped as Z drive on my PC.
The Advance search is the popup that appears when you click on the 3 dots at right end of search box in filters panel.
I have now got a situation where I have done a search have 251 images (filtered) but now despite deleting the filters in the filters panel I can't get back to All images in Catalog collections. Oh and Capture One is busy re-reading all the originals on the NAS yet again at an average speed of 50Mbps. I give up.

The filter tool can be turned off rather than leaving it on and removing the filter fields.

Are you just selecting by 2 keywords - nothing else?

What happens, as far as results are concerned, if you filter using the Filters tool for one of the values and the Advanced search for the other?

    Just 2

    Have not tried that.

I'm going to send a problem report to tech team.

Well after my original rant I worked with a supporter in the support team and the conclusion of a lot of experimentation on my part and reference back to developers by the supporter is that the Advanced Search function will not work properly with originals on a networked drive. There is no problem with internal drives certainly (I have tested this) and there should be no problem with directly attached external drives.

Yeah Capture One isn't really professionally usable over a NAS - but truth be told, neither is Lightroom... it's a bit faster because the preview images are really saved and can be loaded very easily, but editing images is just as fast/slow as Capture One.

I asked about the NAS index to see whether there might be an opportunity of comparing the same effective search using the NAS Index and comparing the speed with C1.

I have to say I don't find the NAS especially quick at anything after the first few reads. Even copying to it via hi-speed USB 3 is not really very quick especially for large numbers of small files.

I have used it for editing from sessions an it was OK most of the time but not fast and sometimes it seems to want to take a break from serving files whilst it undertakes some internal admin tasks.

For various reasons I am using a Wi-Fi connection but experimenting with direct connection did not really seem to make much difference. I have concluded that for new sessions local files are required for mass processing but if I need to do something with a file from and older session only available on the NAS or an archive disk of some sort, then performance would be OK without moving the session back to the main drive(s) first.

I think it would be much the same with a catalogue once the initial load has completed. But I don't have a large catalogue to test with so cannot be sure.
