Catalog size
Hi there,
after using the new catalog feature in C1 Ver. 7, I made the experience that the size of the catalog is increasing very much.
Even in case of managing only referenced pictures and and medium sized pre view pictures.
Compared to the Lightroom, the catalog is larger despite that 50 time more images images are being managed.
Additional no size decreasing has taken place after deleting variants and pictures.
Are there any similar experience, ideas or suggestions?
Best regards
Thomas

File size is a concern for me as well.
I just wonder if one can use C1 Pro 7 without the catalogue feature. I tried, but couldn't see any folders in the folder panel.0 -
You can open a session instead of a catalog.
A session is entirely folder-based way of organizing images. However, you can ignore the session concept and browse and open any folder you like from any session.0 -
Paul,
thanks for your reply. Unfortunately session are no option for me anymore in C1. Sessions are creating a huge amount of data. According to my experience it is easy to double the amount of your raw data by editing them with seasons.
I would prefer catalogs with referenced pictures but without generating a catalog of the size of GB.
As an example:
LR3
2,300 pictures, catalog size less than 50 MB.
C1 V7
215 pictures, catalog size 208 MB.
Again any ideas ...0 -
I'm glad you've raised this point. I'm currently evaluating C1v7 (have v6) and so far am impressed with the new version. It runs very fast and I've had no crashes. The catalogue feature is a big selling point as I only have 256 gig of hard drive space on my laptop. I value the idea of having my catalogue on my drive while the files are at home on external drives. The smaller the catalogue file per number of photos the better and it is an important detail! I wonder if those with more time with the new version of C1 have any ideas on how perhaps the size can be kept minima; that is, if there are any user end things that can be done?
The catalogue feature is a great step forward. Thank you Phase One! Are there any best practices for laptop users with regards to catalogue management or setup?0 -

The catalog package content is not the same in LR and in CO7: The CO7 catalog package includes cashes/previews which are the largest contributors to the size whereas in the LR structure the previews are stored in a separate package (previews. lrdata) and in addition there is a separate variable size cash folder which can be stored anywhere.
If I compare my LR4 catalog with previews and without cache with my CO7 catalog (all inclusive) they have approx the same size per unit pic.0
