Features in Express trial may not be in paid for version

    I contacted Phase One about this ongoing discussion here (and CO6/Mac) and reported multiple inconsistencies. There are some features available in Express that should not according the comparison chart. Other features are not properly described in the chart due to the fact that Pro adds some features to a tool that also exist in Express. It is not black and white, so to speak. Have tried Pro first and Express later is not the cause of the differences like the keystone tool.

    For the support staff, the comparison chart is leading, hence their response. It is up to the marketing department now to iron this out. Give it a week and see what happens. I will come back in case I have more news.

    Support team pointed me at a tech note on how to do a complete uninstall (wiping all the folders in user directories etc.) and I still get the same result which of course I hope is the correct one as the spotting and keystone tools are very useful.
    Another oddity I've just noticed is that I have a menu item "Camera" which when opened says "Hot Folder Enabled". As I understand it this is for teathered shooting which Express does not have 🙄

    I have only used Express in trial mode and never have tried Pro. I have keystone correction, spot remove, skin tone WB, curves (like v5), noise reduction (like v5), can open and pack eip (like v5). The comparison sheet is wrong.

    Keystone correction is not very useful without lens correction.

    I want to congratulate Phase One for this magnificent upgrade. Very smooth, feature-rich and very stable. It seems from a distance that the testing procedures have been significantly improved.
    I am very pleased with the Capture One Express.

    I have a registered copy of Express (never used PRO) and the questioned features (Keystone tool, spot removal, skin WB, etc.) are all working properly.
    I just hope Phase One does not remove them from Express now that we have them.

    Regards,
    Persio.

    I activated v6 Express and all the functionality in the trial of Express is in the activated one.

    I do need to read the manual to learn how to re-set keystone corrections and how to use skin tone WB as neither are intuitively obvious.

    (I am finding v6 Express crashes once in a while, not during any repeatable action so I haven't opened a support case yet. Twice during a slide show when I left the room and came back CO had closed (I assumed crashed, but I wasn't in the room). Another time when I pressed a keyboard short cut for 100% view, another time when I just clicked on an image to start editing it.)

    I am using C1 Express x64 registered.
    Based on my initial testing.

    The following "new" tools work very well, as described in the manual:
    * Spot Removal Tool
    * The Loupe
    * Vignetting
    * White Balance - Grey Option
    * Rotation Freehand (great tool)
    * Keystone

    Tools NOT working
    * White Balance - Skin Tone (the eyedropper is not available)

    Minor anomalies noted
    * Levels Tool occasionally looses the center scale - a simple touch on the tools border recovers the scale

    I hope Phase One give us the missing eyedropper in the White Balance Skin Tone panel
    Quality of the output is simply fantastic, processing RAW and JPEG files from different cameras.
    I hope this helps.
    Persio.

    Right, I've been wondering how to make this workable in the Xpress mode. It's a good addition to the simplified version, as long as it is made operable by a bug fix.

    I have been looking at the Help documentation in detail and it is now clear that the keystone tool in the Express version is a cut down version of the one in the PRO version. Missing are the Keystone tool under the composition tab which allows manual keystone correction using sliders and the Auto keystone correction capability. I am begining to think that the documentation has not kept up with the software development. 🤓

    I got that slightly wrong 🤭 What apperars to be implemented in Express is the Auto keystone correction facility, all the manual keystone correction tools are absent.

    David532, I do not understand the Auto part of your Keystone story.

    Besides that, I am afraid that the Keystone feature was only partially, not fully, hidden in the Express version (tool: hidden, cursor tool: visible) and will be fixed in an update. In CO6/Mac there is no trace of the Keystone tool in Express. Documentation like release notes and online help confirm that. Time will tell.

    Reading the documentation, what is described as auto correction is where you have a number points which you drag across the picture to allign some lines with the edge of the structure you want correcting for keystone, you then
    click on the apply button that is superimposed on the picture. This is the bit temporarily implemented in Windows version of CO6.

    Has anyone noticed any changes in functionality for CO Express with the upgrade to 6.0.1?
    * Availability of Keystone function
    * Availability of Spot Removal Tool
    * Skin White Balance eyedropper not available

    I will not have time to install and evaluate 6.0.1 Express before the Holidays.
    Thanks
    Persio.

    The Keystone tool has disappeared. Also the White Balance for the skin option is not there. SO, the appearance of those two in v.6.0 Express was an oversight. Which is a pity. Maybe they'll appear in v.7 next year 😉

    When compared to ver. 5.2.1 (non-pro) the following are nice additions:
    - the vignetting tool
    - the spot removal
    - the loupe
    - the search
    - the print module (slightly limited though as far as watermarking is concerned)
    (- the slideshow option)

    There is also the ability to stack presets (haven't used it yet) and some creative B/W presets in the Color Editor. They also re-named the Long Exposure slider in the NR section to a more communicative Single Pixel removal option. The NR received a very small overhaul as far as I can tell (stronger red channel NR, at least on the Pentax files that I tested).

    I'd consider upgrading from v.5 to v.6 non-pro if the NR got better (I'd love to see the grain slider in the Express version). Also the skin WB tool and keystoning would be very nice additions. Also the support of Samsung cameras (like the great compact EX1 or the NX series, not to mention the older dSLRs).

    Hello, I have red carefully the discussion and the comparison chart here http://www.phaseone.com/comparison and I am still confused. The comparison chart says, in Express are not available some basic tools like Levels and Curves, Black and white conversion etc.
    I hope I read and understand it it wrong, that I should read the whole sentences, because it all works in V4 and V5. The only reason I am forced to upgrade to V6 Express is the support for Olympus E-5 and without Levels and Curves and some Black and white presets found in V4 and 5 it would be IMHO waste of money, I am satisfied with V4.8.3.
    Can anybody using registered V6 Express confirm the existence of this features?
    Thanks, regards, pka

    Feature wise, Phase One introduced two errors when introducing CO 6 in the Pro versus Express comparison. First, the comparison chart on their web site is way off. I have reported this almost month ago in detail and it is still not corrected. Some features like Curve, Levels and Noise Reduction are more enhanced in Pro but the comparison chart does not reflect this subtle difference and are marked OFF for Express. Reverse is also true: the Color Editor is also more advanced in Pro but the chart only states it is available in both Pro and Express. Let's call it a matter of semantics. And EIP is in the Express version available despite the chart says it's not.

    Second, the first Windows release (6.0.0) showed some remains of Pro features to Express, adding to the confusion. This is corrected in 6.0.1

    The idea that activation changes features that are available in trial mode for 6.0 Express is not correct. You can drop that idea. Test CO 6.0.1 Express now and you'll see what you get when you buy and activate it. If you are already beyond the trial period, the bottom-line is that CO 6 Express does not, I repeat DOES NOT, leave out any feature that was in CO 5 (regular, non-Pro). To the contrary, CO 6 Express adds features (some former Pro feature like spot removal and vignetting) and multiple enhancements to existing features and new camera support.
