I think it is pretty bad a software this expensive requires customers to re-download the entire application instead of only updating what is necessary, or at least handling this automatically... 0 -

I'm not sure I understand the logic here. I pay $40 CAN for 300GB (per month) so the COP 8 download of 330Mb costs me $0.04 - we don't actually have coin with a denomination that small anymore - smallest coin is $0.05
I think it is par for the course that for early dot releases you expect some bugs - with Apple I have learned that it is wise to wait until release X.2 before depending on it.
We have the same kind of problem in the telecom industry ... as the complexity of your SW increases and the number of supported platforms becomes large, verification become a very very big problem .... N cameras x {Raw, Jpeg} x M computer HW variants x K graphics card variants x L Operating system variants x Y SW features x Z SW configurations becomes an extremely large set of tests. Some fraction of combinations are of course impossible, but there are variations I haven't mentioned such as SW state and file system configuration.
If Phase One gets most bugs out in three of four more releases it will be quite normal.
I plan to start using it more seriously around 8.1 or 8.2, depending on user comments in the forums.0
