How to manage files that are transferred among drives?
Hi,
I have two SSD's on my laptop. One is 250gb the other is 110gb. I usually ingest images via Photo Mechanic on disk 1(250gb), then edit using Cap 1 7.2. I backup images to the 110gb and an 2 external hard drives. As the 250gb drive fills up I delete the images on it.
My only issue is what is best workflow so that the edits I make in C1 are available wherever the files are? I know I can hit "Locate" to find the relevant directory in C1 if I moved the directory. I don't want to have to copy the directory to my main drive(250gb) just to edit them. The only issue is if i "locate" the directory it changes to another drive in Capture 1.
Perhaps I should be importing into sessions so that wherever I move the directory I can open it up and the edits will be inside?
Any suggestions would be helpful?

I guess you are using a referenced catalog approach (as I do). If this is the case alla the data relevant to editing (including the previews) are inside the catalog, which I alway keep on the fast internal HD, no matter where the referenced image raw files are stored (on external HD’s in my case); please note that once the previews have been created (during the import phase) the editing and cataloging work can be continued even if the HD with the raw image files is not connected to the computer you are using: you only need the files which are inside the catalog unless you have to output rendered files or print, in which case you need to be connected to the drive (s) where the raw image files are stored. 0
