When I read about the keyword library changes I got excited but first impression is not all that great.

    1. How to create keyword library from existing keywords?
According to the manual (http://help.phaseone.com/en/CO9/Organiz ... aspx#item5) you can create the library based on catalog keywords.

Make from Capture One Catalog/Session (extracts the Document Keyword Library from the chosen Catalog/Session)

But that doesn't seem to work. It doesn't use the current catalog and instead opens a file selector. If I choose the current catalog I get an error message 'The requested document type is no recognized'.

    Am I missing something?

Alternatively it would be nice to be able to add existing keywords manually to the keyword library. Either from image keywords or the list of keywords in the filter but that option doesn't seem to exist.

    2. Keyword performance
Searching for keywords or filtering on keywords is as slow as in CaptureOne 8. I was hoping that the keyword changes would also introduce a different database implementation and perform better. That doesn't seem to be the case.

I still have to experiment how editing and deleting keywords in the library behaves now so that I can clean up and standardize the used keywords. For instance I would like to be able to merge keywords. E.g. select all images that have keyword A, B or C and assign C to all of them and remove A and B from the selected images.

    What worked for me:
open another catalog (or create a new one)
create keyword library from your main catalog (should work ok)
export this keyword library to a text file
    open main catalog
    import textfile

Just ran into my first two issues. Am wondering if the conversion of CaptureOne 8 database to 9 is working correctly.

First I wasn't able to remove a keyword from an old image. It works when adding a keyword in version 9 and then removing it. I wonder if it is related to the library. If I add a keyword to an image in 9, the keyword automatically is being added to the keyword library. But the old image keywords are not in the library as already mentioned in my previous post.

Second and quiet extreme problem was the removal of a keyword from a library. The catalog has ca. 40K images. I added a new keyword to an image, removed the keyword from the image and then tried to remove the keyword from the library. It showed me the confirmation dialog and then it took several minutes before it was removed and during that time the application was not usable.

I will try again later and if it is reproducible create support tickets.

Hi Johannes, can you describe briefly what is the process to create a keyword library from a catalog, and how did you go about exporting it to a text file?

    No problem:
    1. Create a new empty catalog
    2. In the info tab add the "Keyword Library" tool
    3. In this tool click the three points besides "Catalog Keywords"
    4. This gives you the option to "Import Keywords into Library" -> "Capture One Catalog / Session"
    5. Choose your main catalog-file
    6. This gives you a list off all keywords from this catalog in the "Keyword Library" tool
    7. Now click again the three dots besides "Catalog Keywords"
    8. Choose "Export Keyword Library..." and save the keyword-list to a file
    9. Open your main catalog, and import the text-file by choosing "Keyword Text File..." in the dialog from step 4.

I have too tried to delete keywords from CO8. They did not disappear.

Sounds like we are beta testers. Should have waited until 9.2. I am going back to 8 now until 9 is more mature.

Seriously? I really doubt this is considered to be the standard behavior here. Seems more like a joke. I really hope Phase One get their act together and offer a proper fix.

I have gone back to CO8 too.

I however looks like they have fixed the bug in 9.00.1 PhaseOne writes in the documentation:
    • Keywords: Cannot delete keywords in a CO 8 Catalog imported into a CO 9 Catalog

They do not write about a similar bug that makes new added ratings and keywords disappear immediately after they been loaded.

I think you may find it's this one in the Release Notes..

"XMP full sync: Cannot change rating and color tag"

Still have this problem in version 10.1.2, anyone have a work around? The only way that seems a little bit quicker is to select all the images with the redundant keyword, do not remove keyword from images but delete the keyword instead (right click keyword select delete). The program then seems to, very slowly, trawl through the selrcted images rather than the whole catalog. This is of course no help if there are no images attached to the redundant keyword.

I can't say much about the speed (I will have to do some testing), but in the case that there are no images attached to the redundant keyword you can of course attach the keyword to any arbitrary image at all, and then work from there.

Now that is a very sensible idea 😊 Thanks.
