D800 Tether support and Capture Pilot
Why didn't the 6.4 release have tether support for the D800? When will that issue be addressed?

just a little answer about a post that i sent few days ago about d4: anybody knows wich file i have to add in the same way as d800 file to tether d4 too?
paolo111, I suggest you make a bold move: copy all files from the latest Nikon Capture folder to the MAID sub folder of Capture One.0 -
thanks paul, i follow your thoughts: i was thinking to do something like this but i preferred to wait for someone else suggestions! 0 -
Works superb..
Cheers guys.
The how to description was a little tedious so.

Maybe someone can help me. I have the latest version of Camera Control Pro 2, but I can't seem to find the Type0007 Module. I don't even have the Camera Control folder in Library/Application Support/Nikon/
Any ideas? Can someone post a link to the necessary files to run the d800 in Capture One?
Thanks!0 -
Check again.. it worked really easy for me.

Or here the link to the whole description again :

If you can not find it - send me a mail and i forward you my files over yousendit.
Are you sure you have the latest camera control pro 2 even ? This should be 2.11.0.0 -
Yeah I looked again, it only had Capture NX and View NX2 listed. Would you mind sending those files? That would be amazing! 0 -
Send me your mail and i do right away.
Works without any problems for me.
Even shot a Lookbook last week with no problems.0 -
I''m told NIkon has released the Nikon D800 SDK. If so could you now implement normal tethered support for the D800?
Thanks- John0 -
Do you think they write things like that over night and kick it out the next day?
Be happy how it is now - it works exactly the way it will be with the phase one implementation.
Thumbs up for the help we did get to use the D800 before the next release even.0 -
Well that was easy. I'm now tethered with the D800, thanks for showing me how.
The cable that comes with the D800 is not very long. My first test yesterday with a 15' extension didn't work. How successful have any of been with 1) A longer cable via extension or 2) a powered usb hub?0 -
No problems with my extensions.
5 meter and even the 3,5 meter did work fine on a pro mac and macbook pro latest series. I even did get a connection if i did use both the same time as extension.
You should use one with an active repeater i suppose.
I found on lindys homepage some longer cables ... guess it is just a matter of time till full length ones will come out also.
https://www.lindy.com/
This is the name of the cable btw the D800 uses. But it works with any micro usb 2.0 cable also (the ones that black berries uses for example.
USB 3.0 Cable Type A to Micro-B0 -
Great news. I think my extension cable is bad. 0 -
I do appreciate the work-around. However although I can capture into Capture One this way my D800 keeps flashing in the viewfinder and won't easily release the shutter. Am I doing something wrong? [quote="Daniel3222" wrote:

Sounds like.
You have to close Camera Control Pro2 .. that was what i did do wrong the first attempt.
Otherwise.. hard to say what you did .. maybe describe it step by step.
For me it works like normal. Like with every other implemented camera for tethered shooting. No flaws.. no hangers and no flashes.0 -
I got it to work, but I must say that the information is a bit scattered all over the topic, so I thought I'd put it all into one post.
1. Install Nikon Camera Control Pro 2
2. Find the file Type0006 Module.bundle AND Type0007 Module.bundle from:
/Library/Application Support/Nikon/Camera Control Module
From Finder, do:
/Applications/Capture One (show package contents)
/Contents/MacOS/CaptureCoreServer (show package contents)
/Contents/Frameworks/CaptureCore/Nikon/MAID
Copy both Type0006 Module.bundle AND Type0007 Module.bundle into this folder:
/Contents/Frameworks/CaptureCore/Nikon/MAID
Copy fileLibNkPTPDriver.dylib from the same location into:
/Library/Application Support/Nikon/Camera Control Modules
and place the fileLibNkPTPDriver.dylib into the Camera Control Modules folder"
You're done.
Do NOT run Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 when running Capture One.
A reboot may be required for everything to function correctly.
When you update Capture One, you have to repeat the whole process.0 -
Thanks for pulling it all together. I was able yesterday to get both my MacBook Pro and iMac to work, but it would have been easier with this post! 0 -
In a smaller nutshell:
Modules from Nikon into CaptureOne... simple
but then I get confused... "fileLibNkPTPDriver.dylib" from CaptureOne into Nikon?
What am I reading wrong? If your not using the Nikon software why copy anything from CaptureOne into Nikon? I didn't do this part yet it works. Please enlighten me.[quote="Jeroen11" wrote:

hi all,
i still have a question about cables and connection: i have a mbp 17 with a sonnet usb3 express 34 card that works perfectly with card reader, hard drives... but my d800 doesn't appear!! if i plug d800 through usb2 works fine but slower, obiouvsly.
i tried the same usb3 cable with a card reader through usb3 sonnet pci card and it works: i don't know what to do!
thanks all!0 -

Difficult to say as USB 3.0 is not officially supported on macs.
But here a couple thoughts from a digital techs side :
-Does it work on the normal internal usb 2.0 ports with that cable?
-Did you try to use the original Nikon cable - does that one work?
-How long is your cable, and did you try other ones? There is a reasons why some cost 50 Euros and some 5.
-Maybe it is just a power problem. Tethered connections do not really work on some older mac book pros for example like the 2008 ones with i7 2 core processors as they seem to deliver not much power on their usb Ports.
Express cards might deliver the speed to your macbook, but you have to plug in some dc 5V device to power it up.
http://www.sonnettech.fr/product/usb3expresscard34.html
Do you see the little whole on the side.. it might work if you just bridge the power from one of your other usb ports into the card.
Good luck so. And more important.. deliver your results and feedback - we are all happy to get some tips on USB 3.0 connectivity i suppose.0 -
thanks daniel.
i tried the same cable via usb 2 and it works.
i tried the shorter cable that i'm using with card reader and it doesn't work either.
i have a cable for la cie rugged hd with a double usb, one for the usb3 card and one for the power, but i'm worry to put power into the camera.
i attach below here a faq from sonnet site that seems suggest the same.
grazie

Can I get additional USB 5V power by applying auxiliary 5V power to the plug on the card? Dec-23-11
No. External power is not supported. The USB 3.0 ExpressCard prefers its internal 5V power to external 5V power and will not use an external 5V power source.0 -
On the side of the card i can see a little whole. Normally those wholes are for external power (mostly delivered with the card when bought at first) - not sure on this card as i have none in front of me.
http://www.sonnettech.com/product/usb3e ... ard34.html
But in the specs it says : 5V Power Plug
But in a side note : External power source not supported
Here a note from Lacies USB 3.0 express card :
Remarque : For some configurations, you may need an external power supply
http://www.lacie.com/fr/products/product.htm?id=10535
Did you try it with the original cable so? The one nikon did deliver with the camera?
And as you said - in the specs of the card it seems like it delivers power.. but as i said before - sometimes it is just not enough for every periphery as on the 2008 macbook pros USB ports (at least with most cables).
An other idea could be to use a powered hub.
And it really could be a driver thing also.
Specially for the D800 i am going to update my pro mac finally to USB via a lacie card.0 -
in fact i saw the side hole too but i didn't get anything from the original package.
about la cie usb3 card it seems that works only with la cie hard drives
best

...but now i'm shooting so i just go through usb2.
after i'll test some solutions and i'll keep this topic update about it!
thanks a lot

just to let you know, this is what sonnet support replied at my request, if anybody know wich express card works with d800 it will helps a lot.
That is correct, the USB 3.0 ExpressCard/34 will not support a camera.

thanks guys.
with your card my computer sees the camera (i can check in the info page) but it doesn't show up  in the finder.
so you're telling me that if i want to shoot tethered i unfortunately have to buy express card from other companies?

with nikon d800 it doesn't work: i tried either with different and shorter cables and if i connect it through usb2 port it works, so i don't know what to do.
thanks in advance

I'm curious about users success or failure with this work around, on an actual shoot. I'm interested in testing/purchasing a D800e, but it's useless if it's not well supported for tethered capture. 0 -
Had a heavy 15 look / day lookbook shoot over 3 days.
No probs. Worked flawless almost.
Less problems than with a 5dm2.0 -
the same for me like daniel: two look book days (220gb total) no problem except the usb2 bottleneck and libera memory always on the air to refresh ram. at 100iso nice files btw!
on another topic that i submitted drew wrote me that until sdk will be released from nikon no way to use usb3 connection with capture one0 -
Very Nice!
I don't know Capture One very well, but am very frustrated that I can't shoot tethered with any of the major platforms. But I just tried copying the two modules on a Win 7 platform, and tethering seems to work perfectly via USB 3.
I've only done a few tests, not extended shooting, but I'm amazed at the transfer speed so far.0 -
I had a people shoot and only encountered 1 or 2 hangs forcing a restart of CO. Then the next day I had a simple product shoot and had numerous crashes... go figure. In both cases I was shooting to a MacBook Pro. I turned off energy settings so the computer would not go to sleep. 0 -
So I do Not have the modules I need to copy and paste. Where can I get them?
