Rendering Engine
Hi all,
I just downloaded and installed CO8 in parallel to my existing CO7 installation. I agreed that my Session-folder should be migrated from CO7 to CO8. (I only use "Sessions" with CO)
To my surprise the default-Rendering Engine (Color-Tab - Engine) is now always "Capture One 6". This is very unlikely a value taken over, as I started using Capture One only with Version 7.
I wanted to check for any issues on my side, so I went again into the Application Preferences -> Color and verified again the default-Engine which is set to "Capture One 8". Then I restored my Session-folder (with a new name) from CO7, and let it convert to CO8-Format again. When checking any picture, the engine was again set to "Capture One 6" (some Pictures have previously been opened with CO8, and some which have never been touched with CO8 [e.g. no directory CaptureOne/Settings80 was available]).
Folders which have never been touched by CaptureOne (neither version) will use CO8 default rendering engine as expected.
Questions
- Do somebody else has the same experiance ?
- Is there any possibily to convert all pictures to default-rendering of Capture One 8 (aside from the possibility to select all pictures of a folder and click on upgrade ; unfortunally I do have several hundreds of sessions...)
Rgds,
Joerg

ok, I found issues on my side by checking the files CaptureOne/Settings70/*cos and CaptureOne/Settings80/*cos.
The Default-Rendering of CaptureOne was apparently set to render with Engine 6.0 (as I never had CaptureOne 6 installed)
Hence, many of the pictures did contain the settings to use the CO6 renderings in the *cos files ("<VAR Engine="600">"). When CaptureOne8 reads such a setting from CO7, it takes over these settings and continues to use the Rendering-Engine of CO6.
When opening images from a newly created folder, CaptureOne took the correct Engine of CO8.
I'll check if CO works correctly if I use a small scripte to replace in any CaptureOne/Settings80/*COS file the Engine-Version from '<VAR Engine="600">' with <VAR Engine="800">. Risk is low as the settings are separate and I dont have done any real changes using CO8
So, my fault was not to verify the default-rendering engine (with both CaptureOne 7 and 😎 before touching the first picture..

The default rendering engine CO8 uses depends on two aspects:
- is the image NEW, that is without adjustments of a previous version (you can prevent old adjustments being imported in the Import Images dialog, by the way)
- the Preference setting > Image tab > Editing section
On NEW images, the setting from Preferences applies, as it does on the New Variant command from any image, old or new.
On images with older adjustments, the adjustments determine the engine for maximum compatibility.0 -
I am not sure if I understood that correctly. I am interested to know what happens to my old, already processed images.
If I work at new imported images the CO8 engine is used.
What happens if I select an old image in CO8 which was processed in CO7? Is the visible picture in CO8 processed with CO7 engine?
Is it possible to see which engine is used in CO8?0 -

have the same question: can all files in a folder be upgraded the same time from engine 6 and 7 to engine 8
I have tired to select all but only the picture with big white frame and not the others which is upgraded

Is there nobody who can me explain that?
Perhaps I have a wrong idea about that but I am asking myself what do I see if I select an image which was processed in CO7? Is this image still processed with the CO7 engine for the preview in CO8 or is it processed with the CO8 engine?0 -

In the Base Characteristic tool tab the engine used for the selected image is shown (CO8 by default for the "new" images, CO7 for the images already processed with CO7).0 -
Hello Ario,
thank you very much for your answer. I found the place and beside the shown engine I found the button to change from engine CO7 to engine CO8.
If I clone an image and change the engine to CO8 I can compare the result.
It is very interesting that my first test in comparing the engines shows different results:
Image 1: The image which was completely processed in CO7 and in CO8 I just changed the engine. I do not see any difference between both images. The new CO8 engine seems to change nothing.
Image 2: The settings are made in CO8 but with engine CO7 (the image was imported before I installed CO8 and so I automatically got the engine CO7). Then I made a clone of this image and changed the engine to CO8. The result with CO7 engine is much better than with the CO8 engine. The light parts of the image are too light with CO8 engine.0
