It will not be too long.

Hi Lionet,
Thanks for reply. I'm looking forward to it.

Hi!
Here we are on january 25, and Capture one still not work with pentax K5!
What happen!
Do you think people can wait anymore?
Is there any trouble with Pentax?
Do i have to change my soft or to buy Nikon D7000? 😕
Best regards.

6.1 now does! 0 -
Too bad v.5 won't support the K-5 and the K-r (note the correct spelling with the hyphen). The K-7 and the K-x will remain misspelt in v.5 😉
There's still no support for the Sony NEX's and the latest alphas cameras and still no Samsung! (will we ever get the support?!)
Do you think there's ever a chance for the support of the 645D? 😊0 -
Unfortunately the Pentax K-5 DNGs are still not supported - there still is a color purple color shift. If you need any samples, I will be happy to provide them.
Regards,
Andi0 -
As far as I can remember, Pentax DSLR support is/was PEF-only. 0 -

That is correct Paul.
If you look in the FAQ then it states that it only support PEF for some older models, but I have never found the Pentax DNG's to work well in Capture One, where as the PEF support has been extremely good... So I would imagine this to be true for the K-5 as well.
I am travelling until monday, so cannot confirm it yet though.0 -

yes, however several lines later in release notes as usual we can see a little contradictory statement :
"...Adobe:DNG 1.2 (raw DNG support only). The DNG support is not optimized for specific cameras..."
Pentax' in camera DNGs are raw DNGs, even the support is not optimized for specific cameras that does not mean that it should show such wrong color rendering... DNG has all necessary information inside for the colors to be rendered w/ such issues.0 -

not exactly at this moment - K5 ICC profile installed by C1 v6.1 is just a 1:1 copy of K7 ICC profile - so may be colors are not bad, I doubt that are as good as they actually should be... so if you have K5 (I do not) -log the case w/ P1 to actually profile the camera.0 -
As a matter of fact it seems to me that both k-7 and k-5 profiles have been created on 9/07/09 at 15.11.30 (data from Color Sync Utility). 0 -

It would really be a shame if they have cut corners like that...
I will log a case ASAP asking for a clarification.0 -

Ok I have now asked for a clarification on what is mentioned in this and the similar thread in the Mac/C1 6 forum, but so far they have simply just decided not to answer it directly.
So opening a support case on this particular issue has lead nowhere.0 -

what do you mean by "decided not to answer it directly" ? you got an answer but there was no explanation why 😎 ... can you quote unless it is a big-big secret 😂0 -

Got an answer this time around.
Stating that they sometiomes mirror profiles if there is no differences in the colour space used by the manufacturer is the same.
They are apparently investigating as we speak....0 -
I, unfortunately, do not have the answer and have left this one up to our Color Guru's.
However, the conspiracy theory is a bit irrelevant if the Color is poor. If we have RAW files from users that show we need to fine tune the color, we'll pass them along so the profiles are updated properly. If the color space needs to adjustment, then does it really matter?0 -

"color space used by the manufacturer" ? shall we compare Pentax originated DNG profiles that Pentax itself embeds in their in camera DNG files... so assumtion is that the Pentax will embed absolutely the same DNG profiles in K7 and K5 ? note that their are not Adobe's DNG profiles - but OEM DNG profiles... I will download .DNG files from imaging resources and post the xml dump then, it is easy to do0 -
here we go:
from K7 OEM DNG profile, profiled by Pentax, the manufacturer, written by its firmware into its DNG in camera raw file :

ouch... Pentax thinks that colors are not the same... 😎0 -
Thanks for clearing that up, what would we do without you 😉 0 -
Sharing of internal names in color profiles is not that same as sharing the content. Obviously it creates confusion, but K7 and K5 profiles are not the same.
To the DNG color matrix question: DNG color matrix content is determined by Adobe and/or in this case Pentax.
The color model in Capture One is not directly compatible with the "Adobe DNG" color model - hence any conclusion based on DNG content is most likely wrong.
To avoid further confusion we will release an updated K5 profile soon.
-Lionel0 -
I do not have so far any issue about the rendering of K-5 profile, but by inspecting the K-5 and K-7 profiles with the Color Sync Utility (Mac) I really do not see any difference between the two.
Cheers,
Ario0 -

Lionel - they are the same, bit to bit... why do you post such nonsense ? I am sorry for being rude that way, but :C:\...iles\Phase One\Capture One 6\Color Profiles\DSLR>fc /b PentaxK5-Generic.icm PentaxK7-Generic.icm
Comparing files PentaxK5-Generic.icm and PENTAXK7-GENERIC.ICM
FC: no differences encountered

if the color rendering of K5 is identical to K7 then regardless of whether it is Adobe, Pentax, Bibble or anybody else their profiles will be the same, regardless of whether they use DNG profiles, matrix based ICC/ICM, clut based ICC/ICM or whatever... however the mere fact that everybody else out there (except P1) found that they need a different profile for K5 vs K7 speaks volume about the case...
and K5 vs K7 is not the only case - what about Pentax Kr vs Pentax Kx and Panasonic GH1 vs Panasonic GF1 ?0 -

no need to be that defensive... if there is an error on P1's part - just acknowledge that and fix and everybody will like the way it was handled.0 -
Sure this is a bug. Shortly we will release an updated K5 and Kr ICC profile.

That is good news. I must say that Phase One really listens to their customers. Thanks.

Excellent, thanks.

CO 6.1.1 promises improved image quality for Pentax K-5 and K-r. 0 -
And foe Olympus E-5 as well. 😄

Have been working on a round of K-5 files and the results looks better.
Not had enough files through yet to form a solid opinion, but definitely an improovement.
Thanks Phase one team, now it seems that I can revert to my regular workflow.
I have been looking forward to that.0
