USB tethering issue on new Macbook Pro

I have just purchased a new Macbook Pro V10.6.3 and reinstalled Capture One 5 Pro. When I plug my Canon 1Ds 3 into either of the USB ports on the computer the software does not recognise the camera, yet when I plug into the USB on the back of my 30" Apple Display which is also connected to the Macbook, it works fine, no prob's. All other USB devices connect OK on the Macbook.

    If the communication works fine through your Monitor then that would imply the port on the machine is the heart of the issue, not the software. See if you can check with Apple as to what changes they implemented on your new MacBook's USB hub. Although USB is backwards compatible, if your findings hold true for everyone with this combo perhaps Apple needs to make some adjustments.

    Thanks Drew - I have the same problem with Canon Utilities, so I know it's not the software, also I do get a connection when I plug the camera into a Belkin powered USB Hub that's connected to the computer. I will speak to Apple as suggested.

    Problem solved - It was a faulty Macbook Pro straight out of the Box. Apple replaced the unit straight away. 😄

    Well, Apple replaced my new Macbook Pro with another unit, but after 4 days of working OK, I'm back to square one.
    I spent 2 hours talking to Apple tech support and it seems like a it could be a Apple software problem, they are trying to work it out. As I mentioned before, tethering works fine when the camera is plugged into a powered USB or monitor, also, same problem applies with Canon Utility and iPhoto. Any ideas?

    I just got a new Macbook pro running 10.6.4. My old Macbook Pro died an untimely death. I read this stream and noticed as well that my Canon 5DII would not connect to the laptop by USB. I tried a hub and it worked. The odd thing is that the hub worked even when it was not plugged into a power source. I sent in a case report and was told they are waiting for a fix from Canon.
    So in the meantime I will keep a hub in line from the camera to computer. Hurry up Canon!
