And, after sitting around all this time waiting on it to finish excluding duplicates, once it was done it just imported all the images anyway. Very frustrating. This feature is totally unusable. It's better to delete everything and start over.

There are a number of simple things like this that Capture One gets wrong. It's a great RAW editor but the UI/UX design could be improved a lot in some areas.

    Hi David,

Thank you for feedback on Capture One - we appreciate the time you've taken to contribute towards the development of the software.

I have forwarded your comments and suggestions on to our Product Management team as something to consider in a future release. Hopefully your feedback contributes towards a future version of Capture One.

Though we cannot comment on future releases and the features to be added, we recommend keeping an eye on this article - click Follow next to the title of the article to stay up to date with new features and improvements.

How exactly does C1 determine which files are duplicates and should be excluded from import? Apparently not just from the file name. Does it compare the capture date & time and the file type and file size like some duplicate file finder software I've used? Are those the only rules? The documentation Lily presented at https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002492617-Importing-images-into-a-Catalog#h_01EC56GPKE640N43382955PSVE says:

"Images that match key metadata in the Catalog’s database are removed from the importer’s browser and excluded from the import"

"key metadata" doesn't give me enough information. Please define "key metadata". I want to be able to understand with 100% certainty the rules by which C1 excludes files during import.

This continues to be an issue with Capture One 21. Whatever search routines are being used to match data to images are woefully inadequate in performance. Aperture performed this analysis almost instantaneously; I haven't used Lightroom, but I gather it does so as well.

C1 tech support have responded in a timely fashion to my own reports, and apparently this has been passed to Product Management. Whether they consider it a priority is, of course, impossible to say, but, frankly, the fact that the current implementation of this feature is so inferior to what was available in software that was discontinued six years ago speaks volumes.

How I miss Aperture ... I'm still mad at Apple for shutting it down
