    See the article here.

    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007791797-All-about-Capture-One-licenses

and note the sentence that says

NOTE: If you have purchased the license before, the number of activations will be the same when you upgrade.

That appears to mean that the number of activations has been reduced for new purchasers. But if you were entitled to 2 (or 3, as the case may be) activations when you bought the app, you are supposed to retain entitlement to the same number when you upgrade. (So you are better off than a new purchaser.)

    Hope I'm not misleading you!

You could log on to your account and see how many current activations it thinks you have. If there is one that is unintended, you could deactivate that and replace it with another computer.

Thanks Ian for your reply, my understanding was the same as yours but my account shows I have 2 activations available for 12  but 0 remaining for 20 (after activating the software once on my desktop). I need to work between my desktop and laptop (not using both devices at the same time) so this could be a real problem for me!

It's not 12 or 20 you have activations for. It's Capture One. If your account shows you have 2 activations, then you can use one on the laptop and one on the desktop. (That's what I do. I actually have three activations available in total because I bought Pro on those terms way back when. But at the moment I am only using 2.)

Is there any reason not to work with 20 on both machines? It will convert any sessions or catalogs created under 12 to the new v20 format. It doesn't affect any existing edits because it won't update the processing engine used for existing images unless you want it to. The only thing to realise is that once you have converted a session or a catalog to version 20, it can't be opened after that with version 12. That is because the database structure is different to enable it to store information from new features that weren't in the previous version.

I want to work with 20 on both machines but when I try to activate on my laptop I am told I have 0 remaining activations.

On my "manage licenses" page it shows that I have 1 activation for 20 (already in use on my desktop) and 2 available activations for 12 (both currently deactivated). Previous to buying 20, I had 2 activations for 12. I don't want to activate and use 12 on my laptop as my catalogues are updated to 20 for use on my desktop!

    Paul,

Have you de-activated 12 in your laptop as well as your desktop?

From what you wrote I would guess you have but I thought it worth checking again.

Hi SFA, yes, 12 is deactivated on both machines. It looks like capture one have broken my 2 machine workflow! I can't even use 12 on the laptop as my catalogue has been updated to 20 and as far as I am aware it can't be used again in 12.
