Can I re use the license on a new macbook?

Let's say I buy a license key and I already used it on the current macbook. I'm wondering if the key will stick with it forever or I can de-activate it on the current one and re-use it on a new one? The license is allowed to use on a computer at the same time or it just can be used on a computer? Please clarify. Thanks.
