Capture one doesn't see the connected camera (Canon 5D MarkIV)
Hello,
I have just installed Capture one on my Mac (10.15.7 Catalina). I have connected my camera (Canon 5D MarkIV) with a cable but Capture One says No camera connected. I tried with and without memory card in the camera, I reinstalled Capture one. Didn't fix the problem. The problem cannot be the cable neither the camera neither the ports as I have already tethered with them on Lightroom. EOS Utility is quitted.
What else am I supposed to do to make C21 work ?
Thanks for your help

Have you checked the Capture One
Edit > Preferences > Capture tab to ensure that Tethering support for Canon is active?
At the time you attempt to tether, does the Mac see the camera as a Storage device?

The Mac sees the camera (in Apple icon --> About this mac --> USB --> Bus USB 3.1 --> Canon Digital Camera).
In Capture One --> Preferences --> Capture : I have :
Extension : IIQ
Pause after : 30 sec.
Others : Phase One/leaf Credo, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and Leica are all selected.(I have a French version of Capture one)

I'm not a Mac user but I would guess that the Mac sees the Camera as a Mass Storage device before Capture One has a chance to claim it as a tethering camera.
I seem to recall that there is a way to stop that from happening in the Mac settings. However, as I said, I know nothing about Macs. Except what I sometimes read here. The only thing I can suggest, in the absence of another user being able to respond, is to use the C1 Community searching capabilities to see if you can find something that matches your problem in the posts previously made about tethering Canon 5D4s or, perhaps, some information in the FAQ knowledge base.
Or use the "Submit a request" feature at the top f this page to seek Support from the Capture One Support team.

Hi Pascale,
Maybe this article could be helpful: https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002381557-Tethering-problems-the-camera-does-not-connect-frequently-disconnects-or-will-not-transfer-images
It is important to grant Capture One proper accessibility and disk access in Apple System Preferences. Go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy. Unlock the window by clicking on the lock and entering your password. Then add Capture One by clicking the "+" button. Do this for both Accessibility and Full Disk Access options.0 -
Hi April,
Thanks for your answer. I have already followed all the steps of the article you mentioned. And I have granted Capture One accessibility and disk access in Apple System Preferences. But that didn't help ; Capture One keeps ignoring my camera.

Hi, I had the same tethering issue with Canon 5D mark IV, CaptureOne 12 and macOS Catalina 10.15.7. Solved after [updating camera firmware and] adding C1 in Apple System Preferences, as April suggested. Thanks!

Hi,
i still have the same issue and followed every step from the support page, tried with and without SD-Card, uninstalling C1, testing different cameras (it works on my 2nd iMac) and with different Cables.
Im running MacOS 10.15.7 with C1 21
PS: Pascale did you solve your connection issue?

Have you checked for the voltage provided by the connection port(s)?

I tried all USB Ports, USB C and USB 3.0.
Somehow it works tethering with EOS Utitilty no Problem. Same Ports, same everything0 -
Pascale ? Hello,
is your problem resolved?0 -
If you're still having issues, try using a shorter cable for tethering. That solved my problem. I used the cable that came with the camera (maybe 3ft long) instead of my Tether Tools 15ft cable and that apparently was the issue. My husband (an engineer) said it was an issue with voltage drop because of the long cable most likely. I did buy the TetherBooster Pro from Tether Tools last night as well, so I'm hoping that will allow me to use the 15ft Tether Tools cord with no issues.

I am having the same problem with my Canon 5DSR and capture One 22 on a mac studio wit Tether tools cables. Canon Webtool app sees it and works fine. I switched to the short canon supplied USB cable, same results. C1-22 does not see the camera at all. I set the two privacy things on, still no good.

I'm in the same boat as Andre, except with a 5D MKIV. I have a brand new tether cable, though it is longer – but it doesn't appear to have made a difference for others.
I'm on MacBook Pro, M1 Chip, running Monterey 12.1. Camera firmware is updated; C1 has been granted access in settings (accessibility and privacy). C1 is set to work with Canon.
Canon's EOS utility always works flawlessly. Completely at a loss.

Andre here,
I am using two Tether Tools cables, so it is a pretty long run. I ended up just using Canon’s free app, which worked flawlessly. Will still use Capture One 22 for everything else.

I am having exactly the same problem and it's pretty annoying.

camera needs to be updated
and it will be good0 -
@ferreira nohan
My camera is completely up to date with the latest firmware as mentioned previously – so that is not the problem. I have been in touch with Capture One support, and they haven't been able to determine what is causing this.

I am having the same problem with a 5dsr and Catalina on a new Mac m1 16 laptop running Catalina
Why is this so difficult? Is there some sort of trouble shooting step by step?
So far : short cable, adding to security prefs, updating camera seem not to have been helping others.
I am having to go through a usb to usbc adaptor......
please help!

Ok, was able to solve the problem. Photos, the Mac app was running. evidently it was grabbing the camera. I quite Photos and it tethers. This will likely solve many problems and should be something a moderator should step in and say. Or there should be a faq with it in there as a problem. You are welcome!
