C1 14.2 (M1 compatible) still on OpenCL for non-M1 !!!!
from the Release notes:
Hardware Acceleration on Windows and Intel-based Apple machines still runs through OpenCL.
This must be a joke !
Still unable/not willing to implement correctly an "supported" OS (Mojave in this case).
I thought C1 was on a better track, I see that they won't spend an Euro if it is not to gain more customers. So the established customer base on Intel Macs can just go f*k themselves.
A scandal !

Well here's the thing: even 32GB RAM isn't quite enough sometimes.
With high resolution files as 16 bit TIFFs with multiple layers in Photoshop and other applications like Adobe Bridge, Messenger/Email clients and all the rest of the background software running... well..
Of course if you only need to open a small session with a few dozen lower-resolution photos in CaptureOne it'll be fine with 8GB but 16GB is the absolute bare minimum for light multitasking.-1 -
C-M-B
Actually a 39000 image catalog.

Well a catalog with 39.000 lower res images alone won't "kill" an 8GB or 16GB computer.
Make that high res files (50-150mpx or more) with some opened multi-layer TIFF in Photoshop and 16GB probably won't be enough.
Also: quite often people won't just use the computer for image editing. If you want to edit 4k video files 64GB will fill up very quickly...
But that's beside the point.

@Dave
thanks, maybe they are just rehiring people they have set off last years ;-)

Is it just me or has performance also significantly decreased with 14.2 compared to 14.1 on Intel machines with OpenCL hardware acceleration enabled? When I have Capture One in full-screen on my 27" iMac the changes to the exposure, highlights, shadows sliders etc. are applied to the preview in a really "jerky" way, I remember that this was pretty smooth in 14.1 and earlier. I can't find a download link to 14.1 so it's hard for me to compare the two versions.

With Capture One 14.2 on my (Intel) iMac Pro with 64 MB RAM, with Hardware Acceleration on, there is a slight (fraction of a second) delay with high resolution RAW images (e.g., Canon R5 44.5 MPx). The delay decreases as the image resolution or size on the display decreases. In other words, if I decrease the display size of a 44.5 Mix image to half the size of the display, there is no delay and the delay increases as the image is displayed at a larger size.
There is no substantial difference when Hardware Acceleration is off. In other words, OpenCL on the iMac Pro has little benefit, but it does not make things worse, not exactly a glowing endorsement.
I did not install version 14.1, as I was waiting for Metal, which I expected with version 14.2. However, I do not see this delay using version 13.4 with the same 60,000+ image catalog.
So, there is a very short, but annoying jerkiness with version 14.2 while the display catches up with the slider that is not seen in version 13.4.
Perhaps in the development process for incorporating Metal and code for M1 Macs, how Capture One uses OpenCL to update the display changed for the worse. Also, with version 13.4, right sizing the preview size preference to match the display window had no particular benefit for my setup, but it may be more important with version 14.2. This I have not tested.

@jerry I can confirm your observation, hardware acceleration on/off makes no difference and the delay depends on the window size, to see no difference is suspicious.
in general, the previews v14 generates have become more accurate regarding NR but it has also become a little slower compared to v13.

@Jerry C, I'm also seeing the same thing, I usually use Capture One in fullscreen mode on my 27" iMac and adjusting the sliders now results in terribly slow and jerky rendering of the preview. When I decrease the size of the Capture One window (using it non-fullscreen) it gets better, but this definitely wasn't the case with v14.1 and below. This performance regression is unacceptable for a professional app in my opinion. I'm trying to go back to v14.1 but I can't find the download anywhere, only v14.0.2.

Perhaps something was sacrificed in the process of adopting Metal and it was found not to work on Intel Macs.
After you log in, you can download previous versions, here: https://www.captureone.com/en/account/download/previous, but I could only see version 14.0.2.

@Jerry C, Yeah, that's probably what happened, but in that case the HW acceleration performance with OpenCL should've stayed equal to previous versions, now it's gotten a lot worse.

Version 14.2 acts like Open CL is not working. HW acceleration on or off, it's the same. Even so, I did not see the jerkiness in full screen even with Open CL off in previous versions.

yes somethings is strange, 14.2 is slower compared to the previous version.
