Bugs found in 15.3.x (last retest 15.4.2)
Here are a list of bugs found in Capture One 22 Windows version 15.3.x many of which are known but not listed as such in the release notes.
I hope this list helps other users quickly find out whether the issue they are facing is unique to their situation or is a (known) bug. I also hope this list will become obsolete when C1 opens their own transparent/honest bug tracker.
If you have found a bug please share it. Also mention if it was confirmed to you by support it's a known bug. I label those with [known].
- [known since v20] For images shot with a (Fuji?) lens that does not have a CO correction profile (Manufacturer profile) performing the 'Chromatic aberration > ...> analyze' results in the distortion slide being set to 0 on each subsequent restart of Capture One. Even when resetting the slider to its default 100 by double clicking it.
Workaround: after the analysis, change the distortion value to another value e.g. 98 by scrolling or dragging it and then scroll/drag back to 100. Now the value sticks after restarts. - [Fixed in 15.4.2] Shortcuts like M (show mask), C (crop) or H (hand/ pan) no longer work after interacting with floating tools.
You can reproduce the issue by creating a floating layer tool and switching layers by clicking them. While the focus is on the floating layer tool the shortcut M no longer shows/hides the mask on the image in the viewer. This does not happen when interacting with docked tools. [related topic]
note: while fixed for the examples listed, shortcuts with an alt-key (modifier) in them are reportedly still not working. - [fixed in 15.3.3] The update checker 'help > check for updates' reports a successful check but fails to show an update is available. Happened in all versions 15.3.x until 15.3.3.
Update: Running a manual check for updates showed 15.4.0 in the download column. There was no notification or prompt asking to update. - [fixed in 15.3.3] Layers can only be rearranged when you use a secret move while dragging: first go straight left or right and then up or down. Dragging immediately up or down without this 90-degree move results in either nothing happening or when the layer you want to rearrange was already selected the layer you land on is now selected in name-edit mode.(as if you clicked that layer a second time. Of course it's the layer you wanted to drag you clicked twice, so somehow the edit invocation transferred to the other layer)
Note re. 15.3.3: While it's now possible to reorder the layers, their order is however still not saved and reset to their original order upon restart of C1 (bug#5 below).
Note 2: the remaining issue has been solved in 15.4.2 - [Fixed in 15.4.2] Rearranged layers are returned to their original order in which they were created after restarting Capture One. [related topic]
- Drawing a linear or radial gradient mask distorts the mask to the original geometry of the photo instead of the lens / keystone corrected one you're seeing. This results in a non-parallel or oval gradient when trying to draw a straight (parallel) linear gradient or circle. For images that had noticeable barrel distortion corrected the linear gradient's fade-in and fade-out boundary lines now run in a curve instead of straight. [related topic]
- [known] Image Browser jumps to seemingly random locations.
Switching between albums in the catalogue remembers the last selected photo, but does not remember the location of the scrollable browser (by default vertical film-strip on the right). Instead the location you're at in one browser appears to carry over to the browser view for the next album you select. If you're in a larger album at photo 100 and the album you switch to only has 50, you're put at the end.
This means the image shown in the viewer is often not in view in the film-strip.
The same happens when you scroll the browser while having a filter (e.g. star or colour rating) active. After removing the filter the film-strip does not go/stay on the selected photo but moves to the same count of photos down you were while filtered. Of course photo 20 in a filtered list can be the 150th photo in the unfiltered list. Effectively scrolling you up. (thanks Christiaan for mentioning.) [related topic] - [fixed in 15.3.3]If the search box of the browser is expanded it steals focus whenever you switch tool tabs and then try to use a shortcut.
To reproduce: make sure your browser strip is wide enough causing the search box to be expanded. This can be a bottom film-strip or a wider than default one on the side.
Switch tool tabs (default on the left) by clicking another tab.
Now use a tool shortcut, f.i. switch from the hand cursor to the crop tool by pressing c.
"c" was entered in the search field instead of getting the crop tool, get annoyed, backspace it out, click the viewer to focus the photo and try again.
Workaround: use a browser strip on the side and keep it narrow so that the search box collapses. [related topic] - [Known]In the Windows notification after a successful export the "show in explorer" function ignores the export recipes subfolder and thus opens an explorer window that is 1 level up in the tree.
Obviously it cannot preselect the exported image here. (like it does when you right-click a raw file in the browser and use "Show in Explorer") - [Known]The Windows notification after a successful HDR merge does not switch back to Capture One when you click "show image" while you are currently doing something else like browsing the internet. When you switch back manually you'll notice the resulting HDR image was in fact selected in the background. (found it in 15.4.1, unsure of it pre-existing)
- [new in 15.3.3?] Several users report that the installation of C1 fails to install all .NET runtime dependencies. Launching C1 subsequently results in an error saying the required ".Net Framework" is missing. Answering yes to the prompt asking if you want to download it does nothing.
Workaround: C1 uses both .NET 4 (at least 4.72, latest available is 4.81) and .NET 6 Desktop Runtime. Check which desktop runtime is missing and download+install it.

version mgmt: the above was checked and updated for 15.4.2

A nice summary of the bugs in CO1 v15.3!
Bug nr.4 is a very peculiar one, I worked it out with the "special or secret move", and even thought this was enineered behavior, but saw no mention of it in release notes.
Bug nr.7 is my most annoying one when switching between catalogue folders: the filmstrip loses position and when you have a collection (folder) with 1500 images, this is a major annoyance. I miss in your summary the related bug: when you check a filter like star rating, the filmstrip immediately jumps to a different position, and back when you uncheck that filter. As long as you don't move the filmstrip in the checked filter position, it will always return to the original position when unchecking the filter, but if you move the filmstrip with e.g. 5 star image filter selected, then it jumps back to a new position when unchecking the filter.
My support case was closed after the latest 15.3.3 release with an email that this issue is sloved in v 15.3,3, but both issues are unsolved.
I re-opened my support case.

Thanks for confirming #7 and giving a better description of "browser bar" as "film strip". I've added [known] to the list item.
Had not noticed the filter one yet. (don't use them often)0 -
Is anyone else able to reorder favorites in v15.3.2?
I just upgraded from v21 and favorites are locked into the order they were added.
Is this a new bug as well or am I the only one with this issue?

What do you mean by favourites? Are you referring to variants and their order?
Cannot tell without you being more specific. I tested picking different variants as primary (favourite?) and this was remembered.0 -
I presume that by favourites, he means Session Favourites.

Yes, "session favourites".
Can anyone else reorder them in 15.3.2 by dragging and dropping? They are now locked in v22 for me. I have been able to reorder these for as long as I can remember. I can certainly reorder them in v21 by dragging and dropping them.
This is messing with my session organisation flow... It's messy to have them locked in the order added and I am wondering how long I'm going to have to deal with this disorganisation before it is resolved.
It would be reassuring to know someone else has this problem and I'm not the only one with the issue.
Wondering if this is a new bug not listed here in the "Bugs found in 15.3.2" thread.

Keyboard shortcuts still don't work properly with floating tools (Problem #2). Got my hopes up with a more significant update (15.4), but was disappointed again! I wonder if they are ever going to fix it?

I've retested the above and can confirm none of the remaining issues in this list were solved in 15.4.0
In retrospect I can now say #3, the update checking, worked in 15.3.3. (Don't know whether this was a server-side or application issue to begin with though).Keyboard shortcuts still don't work properly with floating tools (Problem #2).
Indeed. It can probably be explained by the fact a floating tool is a separate window. Interacting with it pulls away the focus from the main C1 window. Strange enough, some shortcuts like alt+d for export are passed along to the main program, but others are not.

An addition to point 4 (layer order):
As far as I am informed, the order of the layer does not play a role in processing (or has that changed in the meantime?). Therefore, it is only about the display, which would not be so serious.

Having obvious quality of life bugs not fixed in numerous updates is part of the Capture One experience.

If the layers are not operating on the current state of the image as processed through the layers below (which means that the layer order absolutely can matter), then these are not really layers, but just separate masked adjustments.
Yes, that's exactly what they are. They are NOT layers in the same sense as in Photoshop (or any similar pixel editor such as Affinity Photo). In Capture One they started off being called Local Adjustments and to my mind it was a mistake to start calling them Layers because then some people expect them to be the same things as layers in the sense that they know from other apps, which they are not.

Perhaps you should start a separate dedicated thread about this layers thing.

@John Friend
Image operations (no matter whether they are specified in layers or not) are always applied in a fixed order (determined by the so-called processing pipeline).
So while it is true that ordering matters (sometimes), as a user one cannot influence that ordering.

Now that the v23 release date is fixed, I guess that's all settled here. At least for v22 we will almost certainly not get any more fixes, that means in other words we will have to pay for the bug fixes again, if the bugs are solved at all in v23. The company is slowly becoming unsympathetic to me.

@Okular
I thought the same thing and contacted customer support. I was told v22 will have another release with more bug fixes. Maybe people can contact cs to get confirmation.0 -
The main bugs that still plague v22 are not fixed in the latest v23 beta, so for those hoping that v23 will solve the bugs, it would be best to not get your hopes up too high, and try v23 first, because it appears that adding features for a new release has far higher prioroty than fixing bugs, even when they affect the user experience considerably.

v15.4.2 was released today and the keyboard shortcut problem with floating tools was fixed, sort of. It still doesn't work from floating layers when the ALT key is part of the shortcut, but nevertheless a major improvement.

This is now the 4th incremental update and Session Favorites are still locked on Windows. Seeing a 4th update where your irritating bug is not fixed is incredibly frustrating.
Capture One is relatively expensive software. I get it. But when they plow forward with new paid versions all the time and they don't fix fundamental bugs in the software it makes for a poor user experience, and it creates a negative view of the company.

Wow, not that I have to completely revise my opinion about the company, but it is a miracle that a bug fix update comes so shortly before a new major release. Has that ever happened before?
I am not affected by all items on Propheticus list, my main concern is point 4+5, the re-ordering of layers in catalog. After short tests I can confirm that this is solved and the changes are now saved.0 -
Changed #2 and 5 to Fixed in 15.4.2
Changed #9 and 10 to Known because I opened a ticket and provided videos + logs. (also reported #7, but that was already a known bug)
All in all some nice progress.0
