Is it practical to not import and just work directly with the images on the network drive? Or have the whole session folder on the network drive? (Never tried that myself.)

Change the Crop Behavior in C1 preferences from Use Variant to Use Global.This forces C1 to remember the last used crop aspect ratio.You could also copy/apply the square crop to all the others.
