The left image clearly has sharpening applied to it, as well as noise reduction. Are you sure that you didn't sharpen it?Andrew

I don't know that v4.0 is necessarily worse. There are certainly some improved features in 4.0 versus 3.7.7LE, such as the high dynamic range sliders, the better auto exposure settings, faster prev...
